Clearly I am totally overthinking this
, but it's Joey who breaks the news of Josette's engagement and Sybil's romance, and the fact that she goes on about the blokes' jobs without even mentioning their names maybe says a lot about how obsessed everyone's got by then with potential husbands' financial prospects and status! When Vanna Ozanne gets married, Janie tells Joey about Vanna's husband's private income, which is none of Joey's business. Then Joey tells Grizel and Mollie all about Reg's finances. When she tells Hilda the news from Australia, wouldn't you think she'd at least have said "He's called Joe Bloggs, and ..." rather than just saying that he's 29 and a solicitor with a well-established practice? And the same with Sybil's intended?
Sorry for being irrelevant
. It just annoys me that Madge's future sons-in-law aren't even named, whereas the husbands of, say, Verity and Evadne are.
