Liz I think I love you!

Of course getting the birth years is only half the story with EBD's mad aging process but at least it's a very good place to start from!

Thanks, Liz.

This is purely out of curiosity, and it might never have been mentioned anywhere. I just wondered if there was a vague idea of which year that Doris Trelawney/Carey made her entrance into the world, please?

I have a vague idea that it's stated somewhere that she's ten years older than Joey.

I just read this recently. It's in Joey Goes:

Quote:
Margot regarded her mother with wide blue eyes. “I hope they’re right and that you never will. We’d hate it if you went all proper and old like – like Auntie Doris. f’rinstance. She never plays with Mary-Lou”
“Auntie Doris is ten years older than I am and was much older when she first had Mary-Lou than I was when you three arrived. And then she’s had rather a sad life,” went on Jo, who believed in talking to her girls seriously if they asked for it.

However you could probably read that as a general or a specific statement, whichever suits your purpose better. Plenty of people say 'ten years' when they can mean anything from six or seven to fourteen years.

Two more birthdays for the list.

According to Head Girl, Grizel's birthday is in May. There's an EBDism of course - at the beginning of School Grizel is fourteen and a half, and as this is March or April, her birthday should probably be in late summer, depending on how precisely the meaning of "fourteen and a half" is interpreted (probably not very for EBD, as she says Joey is twelve and a half when it is a good eight months until Jo's November birthday)

The there is Juliet. Her birthday is a bit vaguer, but I placed it in August in Juliet. She's fifteen and a half when she joins the school (this would be April / May), but late on (July?) in Princess she is said to be ‘nearly eighteen’. I chose August for her birthday as it's about the latest point in the academic year for it, if she is to be eighteen before going up to university.

Hi,
This is brilliant. Only a couple of little things though. In Jo to the Rescue, Jem's age is given as 48. This is months before Joey's 25th birthday. I did read though that in another part of the series the age gap between himself and Madge is less than the 12 or so years it must be to match the ages in Rescue. Maybe it is the second age which is calculated in above. Also, is there not 3 not 2 years between Charles and Michael? If it was 3 years this would fit in with the triplets being 14 before Phil and Geoff were born as I think they were and not to be 14 the birthday after. I did not check the other Maynard years of birth before writing this but I think Felix and Felicity were born just before the triplets 10th birthday and the triplets celebrated their 12th birthdays the November before Cecil was born.

Thanks for this, it confirms my timeline for my story - I will have time after the New Year to write another one.... I need to make sure that timeline is a set one and not 'variable' as I seem to have created my own EBDism...

Does anyone know the approximate birth years of Hilda, Nell, Mademoiselle, Herr Anserl, Herr Marini etc?

Was Joey really 21 when war started?
I thought she was 19 seeing as she was 21 (bar a couple of weeks) when the triplets were born.

The dates are very confusing!
I remember in Exile at the very end of August when the school reopens she says she's nearly 21.

The trips were born in the same year that war started. (Not long after the school reopens, seemingly) We know EBD can be a bit off with her dates but that seems all fine?

Joey's age she the triplets are born changes in later editions. I believe the early editions of Exile have her as 20 but this later changes to 21.

The triplets are born in November 1939.
