Name: Nanda

Age (ish!): Mid 40s

Location (approximate - no actual address, please!): Scotland

SLOCs/children/pets/imaginary friends: One SLOC, no children, no pets.

Favourite and least favourite books and characters:

Favourite characters: Gisela, Simone, Eustacia, Elisaveta, Daisy Venables, teenage and adult Robin, Clem, Verity-Anne, Katharine Gordon, Con Maynard, Rosamund Lilley, Joan Baker once she stops tormenting Ros, Kathie Ferrars, Adrienne and Jane Carew, Madge until she makes Sybil and Josette go to Australia with her.

Favourite books: I think some of them are guessable from list of favourite characters above! In addition to the books named for or about the favourite characters above, I also like the first two books, the Chalet School and Jo, New House at the Chalet School, all the wartime books, New Mistress at the Chalet School, Theodora and Triplets. I like the holiday books too.

Least favourite characters: Joey, when she's being a tactless adult about proper families, Jack Lambert.

Least favourite books: Wins the Trick and Feud.

How you got into the Chalet School: Whilst staying with my godmother when I was about seven, she dug out her old books for me, which included some Chalet School. I think the first one I read was Exile. I then started collecting Armada paperbacks as I could and have a full set of paperbacks. I've recently been able to borrow hardbacks from a friend so I've been catching up with some of what's missing from the paperbacks.

How you found the CBB: I've been lurking as a guest for a few years, but only just found the courage to start paddling.

Welcome Nanda!

I have also been musing on what has suddenly triggered so many new members from Scotland. Has there been some coverage of EBD in the Scottish press perhaps?

It has just happened on a gardening website I belong to - but there it was TV coverage in the US which led to the sudden influx :D

It's lovely to meeet you, Nanda! What a good thing your first book was Exile too - a brilliant one to start with and tantalising in terms of going both back and forwards in the series.

Many thanks to everyone for the welcome. Sorry I disappeared again so soon after de-lurking but there were things getting in the way of talking about Chalet School (tsk!).

I'd love to come. Thank you for mentioning it. Dundee is doable from my location. I think I need permission from the mods to read Kaffee und Kuchen but I will see about asking them very nicely.
