Name: Jayne

Age (ish!): 42

Location (approximate - no actual address, please!): Wales, near St.Briavels (really!)

SLOCs/children/pets/imaginary friends: 1 cat, 4 chickens

Favourite and least favourite books and characters: Hmm, favourite character probably Tom Gay, least favourite, there isn't one really, as unlikable characters (e.g. Annis in the book I'm currently reading) tend to come good in the end. Worst book, hmm, I haven't read the whole set for a long time, I'll advise that when I get through them again. Favourite book, well I've just finished "A Difficult Term for the Chalet School" (not even EBD!) and it was fantastic. When I finish 'Island' that will probably be my favourite.

How you got into the Chalet School: Sort of progressed after reading St.Clares and Malory Towers when I was younger. I have the whole set, which I read as I bought them about 5 years ago. I've recently found GGB publishing and was delighted to find 'new' material. Even better than that, with middle age upon me I've forgotten most of the plots from the first time around, so I'm reading them all again!

How you found the CBB: Google, source of all knowledge.

Welcome to the CBB, Jayne! Have you visited St. Briavels and did you take any pictures please?

Ah, the real St.Briavels is about 20 miles south of Hereford (Armiford in the books) and isn't an island. It could be coincidence, but EBD lived in Hereford so it seems likely she 'borrowed' the name for the island.

Thanks for the lovely welcome everyone!

:)

There is a decided lack of chickens in the CS series. Perhaps they could have been worked into the WWII era when the girls are "digging for victory", there would have been an enormous amount of scraps from the kitchens.
