Thank you for the wibbling info!! :)

And now perhaps it's time for me to introduce myself.

I'm a Swedish woman, living in Stockholm with my cat Ramses. I nearly wrote "two cats", because I've always had two. But Ramses' brother Mio died only two months ago (aged 13, like Ramses), and though I briefly tried to introduce a new cat, it didn't go well. Ramses was made unhappy and very stressed, so I returned the other cat to the shelter (he has now found a new home, where I hope he will be able to stay).

So now you know about my passion for cats - as you can also see in my signature.

I'm also visually impaired since birth. I have about 10-20% sight remaining. This means I can see to move around without bumping into things (usually!), and I can read ordinary print with the help of very thick glasses, good lighting, and a distance of not more than two inches.

For my computer and my smartphone I use a magnifying programme, or the Zoom option. For watching TV, I use binoculars.

I first met EBD's books in 1974, when I was in England on a summer course in English. I found Jo of and Wrong at a bookshop in Brighton, where I was staying. I didn't realise it was such a long series, and couldn't understand the gaps when I read the books!

I had seen Exploits too in that bookshop, but my English wasn't very good then, and I thought it had to do with exploitation!! I wasn't about to read anything like that! But I slowly started collecting my CS paperbacks.

It was 20 years later that I got in touch with the girls' stories network, though Eva Löfgren. I found Folly and FOCS, and from then on I was hooked!
The end of the 90s brought the Girlsown network, and at last I could interact with fans all over the world! It was amazing.

I began hearing about the CBB in the 2000s, but didn't really understand what it was or how to access it. That's why it's taken me so long!

Of course, living in Sweden as I do, and being too poor to do a lot of travelling, I can't get to Chalet group get-togethers "in the flesh". I miss that very much, and I SO envy you when I read reports of meetings in FOCS and NCC!

But I hope this will be a sort of substitute.

I look forward to joining in properly! :D

Thanks for all the extra info about yourself, Kait - you'll find lots of other 'cat people' here, and a topic called 'The Dog's Dinner Thread' (in The Rose Garden' section) which is for chat about all our animals (not just dogs). Sorry to hear about Mio, and that things didn't work out about the new cat, but what a splendid name Ramses is for a cat!

PS I met Eva Löfgren a couple of times - her main interest is Dorita Fairlie Bruce, if I remember correctly.

Btw, sorry about the large print on my previous post. I thought the large print was to help me in writing, not that it would appear on the published post!

Ah, yes. We've all been there. You should have seen the state of my signature when I first forced my presence onto the unfortunate CBBers! Font sizes all over the place!

Ah, drabbles...without them, my life would be half what it is now.

*Weirdo sigh*

Yes, it took me a while to learn the lingo too - and I still don't know what "purple sparkly leaf" means!

Welcome to the madhouse, Kait.

Purple sparkly leaf sounds drug-related to me!! :D

But thanks for all the helpful hints.

I realised I should have stuck to the form in introducing myself. But I didn't even FIND it until I'd already done the deed!!

Shy but impetuous, that's me! :D

I quote from a most useful topic called Common Internet Acronyms and CBB Abbreviations (in the 'Miss Dene's Office' part of the 'Speaking from the Dais' section):
Quote:
Sparkling purple leaf - Liss got fed up with us using certain words too much, so used the auto censor to change them to sparkling purple leaf.

I know that - I just don't know what those "certain words" might be.

Try googling the net with CBB in the first (general) field and sparkling purple leaf in the exact word or phrase field?
