Hi everyone! You all seem lovely. This is who I am:

Name: Stalungrad (Steffan)

Age (ish!): 31

Location: Swansea, South Wales

SLOCs/children/pets/imaginary friends: I'm married, with no kids. No pets or imaginary friends either. Maybe I should get hold of an imaginary pet.

Favourite and least favourite books and characters: Ah, okay, here's the thing ...

How you got into the Chalet School: Having grown up speaking Welsh, I first discovered English-language novels by picking through my mother's collection of favourite books. Certainly in my school, I was the only boy in the 1990s whose reading was exclusively informed by the tastes of a girl in the 1960s.

A friend of my mother's recommended the Chalet School books about ten years ago, and she fell in love with them, managing to collect most of the books in an epic quest that took in most of the nation's bookshops and ebay accounts.

Yesterday, I was helping my mother organise her garage, and I found this nearly-complete collection. I'm really in the mood to read these books, and I thought I'd take the eccentric step of joining a fan forum before I've read a single word of them.

How you found the CBB: As a reader who pretty much came of age as the internet became a big thing, forums are my favourite way of enjoying books. I looked up "chalet school forums" in a search engine, and this looks like the most exciting one. Nice to meet you all!

What an interesting idea, to join before reading. And how lovely to have all those books ahead of you.

Welcome to the CBB!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Planning to start reading the first book tomorrow. I'll post my thoughts as I go.

So ... what would be the best forum to use for my commentary, do you reckon?

Roughly speaking, comments or questions about major themes andissues go in Special Sixth, and comments or questions about minor things go in Lemon Biscuits & Liberty Bodices.

Enjoy :D. The first two books are particularly good, IMHO, so you've got a treat in store :D .

Welcome Steffan - what an exciting newbie! It will be so interesting to hear your thoughts for the first time as for some of us our first time memories are rather hazy...!!

Thanks Cal and Lisa!

I certainly hope my thoughts will interest you. Three chapters in, I'm having an absolute blast with the first book.

I inherited lots of childhood obsessions from my mother - I was a big fan of Enid Blyton, of Dr Who, of Pobol y Cwm (Welsh-language soap opera).

So when she said I could borrow her Chalet School books, I leapt at the chance.
