Can anyone recommend any GO school stories that are set pre (or during) WWI? I’m aware of Angela Brazil and am reading some of hers at the moment but are there any others that you would recommend? :)

There's What Katy Did At School, although you've probably already read that, and some by L T Meade and Dorothea Moore :D .

There are a couple of recent ones by our very own Sealpuppy (Nicola Slade) - the two Fyttleton Girls mysteries: Convalesent Corpse and Merry Month of Murder ... they they aren't quite GO, being closer in tone to the Wells and Wong series as they are 'cosy mysteries' - but they are very good, about girls if not strictly about school, and well researched on the WW1 background.

Peggy's Last Term by Ethel Talbot, although published in 1920, is set during WW1
Tom and Some Other Girls (1901) and The Independence of Claire (1915) by Mrs George de Horne Vaizey - the second is written from the teacher's point of view.

If it's the period but very few war references, EJO's early ones would fit - Rosaly's new school (published 1913), Girls of the Hamlet Club, The Tuckshop Girl, A school Camp Fire, School of Ups and Downs, Go-Ahead Schoolgirl, all these were before The Abbey Girls which was published in 1920.
