Elsie Dinsmore books - all 28 of them! for 49p! However, I'm not tempted having tried one of them. Poor Jem carting 28 volumes across Austria.

Here's the Elsie Dinsmore link - I succumbed. It's excellent "I can't sleep tonight, where is there something tedious and safe to read?" fodder :D

I also succumbed - at the price of 73 cents Canadian for the lot, I couldn't resist!

I got a job lot a few years ago, although sadly not for 49p, and read them. Once was more than enough!

I have given into curiousity and bought them too! Has anyone here been tempted to write an Elsie book à la Jo?

I started one once, they would have to pay me 49p to take them away.

Only as an extreme spoof   . Even Madge laughs at the thought of Jo writing an Elsie book. I only wanted to read them because the American Civil War is one of my specialist areas, but, when I got to the book set at that point, Elsie went off to Europe and sat the war out there!

Actually, I'm not sure even a spoof would work: I find the treatment of Elsie's step-granddaughter by her father very disturbing. The poor girl has to tell her friends that she can't go out for a walk with them because she can't do anything without her father's permission, and, as he's out, she can't ask him. They're also rabidly anti-Catholic, to the point of being offensive. Each to their own, but I can't say I ever want to read them again!!

I always seem to be touting my wares on here, :) but my Victorian Charlotte Richmond mysteries are being republished in ebook and paperback and the first two are up on Amazon, with the third to follow shortly. Shiny new covers to replace the purple monstrosity that was the original for Murder Most Welcome, the first in the series. They're £1.99 though.

I can't think how I managed to miss these before - maybe I was put off by those purple covers but I should really have known better. I am now on the second one and much enjoying it and wondering when number 3 will appear as an eBook. Is there an ETA?

I will try and remember to write reviews... :)

Sorry, Gil, didn't see this. Yup, No3 is out and the first two Harriet Quigley books are in the pipeline!

In other news, I've just discovered that some of Barbara Michaels books are out on Kindle at £2.99. Produced Sept last year so hopefully some more to come. Her BM books are the slightly spooky ones and although I have most of them anyway, I've just bought a couple of my favourites.

There's a discussion on Special Sixth about authors who influenced EBD (i.e. ideas she nicked!). For info 'Tom and some other girls ' by Mrs G de Horne Vaizey is free on Kindle.

Thanks for that, Cestina, I've just bought it! I loved the first book, even though it was was quite emotional to read.

I was just reading Michael Innes' Death at the President's Lodgings for the first time and the tatty green penguin I had bought was missing pages 90-167. Somewhat frustrating when I only realised this as I turned to page 91! However turns out some of his books are only 1.99 on kindle and a whole raft of them seem to be on kindle unlimited.

I have only read half of one but I am enjoying and it seems to fall in with other golden age crime novels.

Miss Pym disposes is 99p at the moment.

I have two of hers already sitting to be read, but I felt I could justify it.

I've just bought it, thanks for the mention. I have all her books in ancient paperbacks and this is so much cheaper than the others, at £4.99. Incidentally, I had to laugh at a couple of reviews complaining that the book is dreadfully dated!

Kindle offer at 99p The House at Ladywell. For a few days, I think.
