Thank you very much whoever recommended Mrs. Marchmont - have just read the first three of the series and thoroughly enjoyed them.

I am just reading Welcome to The Little School by the Sea by Jenny Colgan, the first of a series of six (only first two written so far) of tales of a boarding school written for adults.

The author first published the two under the name of Jane Beaton. She is a great fan of school stories, including the CS.

I have nearly finished Welcome to... which is currently 99pence on Kindle. I can't quite make up my mind about it...has anyone else read it?

I am enjoying it enough to take the second one when it drops within my price range.

Read it on your recommendation, Gil, and have now bought the second. I can see she's going to string out some of the plotlines through the next four books but I really enjoyed the first one. Tried to imagine Kathy Ferrars as the new mistress but even my overheated imagination failed on that one!

I posted about these a few months ago. I enjoyed them but not as much as I have her other books.

Anyone who enjoys Regency froth with a bit of intrigue might like Mary Lancaster. The first two in her 'Imperial Season' series are currently 99p on Amazon. The books are linked, so ideally should be read in order.

I know some people on here enjoyed the Martin Walker Inspector Bruno series - quite a few of them are at 99pence today....

And there are a couple of Menna van Praag down as well. Highly recommended.

Also some Mary Stewarts and a Georgette Heyer....

Thanks Cestina :D . I couldn't justify all of them, but I've just treated myself to a few Mary Stewart's as I haven't read very many of her books.

Thanks, Cestina - got the ninth Bruno for 99p - not pre-ordering the 10th as can't justify £12.99!

I took 7 and 9 but flipping 8 is still over my price limit grr.

For anyone who doesn't know Menna van Praag I am afraid that The House at the End of Hope Street and The Dress Shop of Dreams have both gone up again. The newest one - The Lost Art of Letter Writing is still at 99pence, as is Men, Money and Chocolate. This latter one is very different from the others and I certainly would not recommend starting with it.

I am only part way through The Lost Art of Letter Writing and it is not, I think, quite as good as the others I mention above.

I can't remember how much I paid for 8, or when I got it ...

Thanks, cestina, just got Bruno, number 9. I have to admit to acquiring no 8 in hb for some ridiculously low price a while back. I must have struck lucky, as all my others are on Kindle.
