Thanks Cestina, have downloaded it and will look at it en route to the Bristol conference, which seems quite appropriate.

I thought of you and abbey as I posted it :D

Cestina, it was very funny at the dinner on Saturday night as I mentioned the book and that it was on Kindle for 99p, and it was almost as if we were in some saloon in a Western movie as everyone in the group around us dived for their guns at the same time.

When I say guns, I actually mean phones and tablets as they all scrambled on to Amazon to download it.

I skimmed through most of it on the plane yesterday; the chapter on problem pages is very funny. For me (a child of the 'silver age' as she calls it), a skim was sufficient for the rest, but it did raise a few reminiscent smiles, so thanks for the recommendation.

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella is 99p in today's Daily Deals. She is one of my favourite silly, funny authors for when I'm feeling rotten.

There is a Kindle Big Deal today which includes nearly all of the Ellis Peter's Felse books at 99pence and also a Val McDermid. I can't do the smart link on this machine so here's a straight one https://www.amazon.co.uk/b/ref=sr_aj?no ... 2031&ajr=0

Beware though - it appears that Flight of a Witch is in the completely wrong order, according to 2 reviews. Also number four in the series, A Nice Derangement of Epitaphs is still at £3.99

I've been so good about buying Kindle books (and real books in the charity shop today). Trying to decide if I want the Val McDermid - I like her books but some are too gory for me eg the Tony Hill books. And then there are all those Ellis Peters' titles .....

I can recommend "We Were Liars" for those who like YA fiction. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Ouch just bought all the Felse books, why do I always seem to spend more the broker I am?

I can recommend Skeleton Road (with some minor reservations). It was the almost the first Val McD book I read and since then I've read a good dozen or so, so I think that counts as an endorsement :)

Today's Kindle Big Deal is a number of Susan Hill's Simon-the-detective-with-the-unspellable-unpronounceable name books...

Today's Daily Deal includes books 2 & 3 of Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy, though sadly not the first. Just in case anyone's read Sabriel but not the others, though!

I have every one of that series in hardback as I love both the books and Susan Hill so much.

Today's Kindle deal includes Mr Penumbra's 24-hour bookshop, which I seem to remember someone recommending on here.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... 5400977031

Margaret Drabble's Pure Gold Baby is also on for 99p - I can personally recommend that; interesting to read alongside The Millstone.

Today's Daily Deal contains The House at the End of Hope Street by Menna van Praag which is a rather nice gentle tale....

Thank Cestina. I have just bought it. After a horribly stressful week this sounds like just what I need!

I can recommend it, Brie. Rather whimsical, but fascinating, and keeps you on the hop.

I've never heard of her before but one of the Dean street press golden age mysteries are free at the moment. "Death in the Dentists Chair" by someone called Molly Thynne.

Also the furrowed middlebrow books are out now and they are pretty cheap on the kindl, so I think that will be where my book budget goes this month!

Today's Daily Deal includes a school story with a difference, by the unbelievably prolific Alexander McCall Smith - School Ship Tobermory.

Looks promising and I have taken it....

Thanks for the recommendation Cestina- I just finished reading it and loved it! (though I did find myself wanting to shake Alba into action at times...)I missed the daily deal so bought the book second hand- which works out really well as I'm planning to spread the love and lend it to my friends :)
