Don't know if anyone else spotted the announcement that Elizabeth Edmondson died, aged 67, very suddenly of cancer, on 11th January.
I met her once as she was setting up a publishing company and was interested in doing my Charlotte Richmond historical mysteries in ebook. Sadly, that particular venture collapsed when her husband was taken ill and subsequently died, and by the time she was ready to work again, Robert Hale had put my books out in electronic form.
She was such a nice woman and I loved her Mountjoy novels (originally written as Elizabeth Pewsey, and possibly as Elizabeth Anston(sp?) Best of all was her new series, The Selchester Mysteries and I'm devastated that there won't be any more.

Oh, how sad. Both that she died at such a (relatively) young age, and that there won't be any more Selchester Mysteries. I was thoroughly enjoying them and was looking forward to the next, whenever it appeared.

Oh that is sad. I had just started reading, and very much enjoying, her books. I was exploring all her different identities and styles.....so sad to know there will be no more.

I've have literally just finished my very first one of hers after all your recommendations, Finding Philippe, so to then hear of her death was a bit of a shock. She was younger than I am! No age to die....

So sad to hear, my thoughts are with her family and friends. I really enjoyed her books (especially the Selchester Mysteries and Devil's sonata), so sorry to hear that there will be no more.

Very sad - I quite liked her children's books (Hand of Doume, The Talking Head etc) but the Mountjoy novels are among my absolute favourites.

I hadn't realised she had changed her name - but that explains why there were no more Elizabeth Pewsey novels, which I have often wondered about. I have got and remember very much enjoying the (first?) six Mountjoy novels - maybe I should go back and reread them (if only there were time ....)

Spotted on FB, a post by her assistant:

Elizabeth Edmondson Thank you so much everyone for your sympathy and condolences, Elizabeth's friends and family are very touched by all the support. For those of you who enjoyed the Selchester series, the third instalment may be coming out after all based on the manuscript Elizabeth left behind. I (Elizabeth's assistant) will update you all as I find out more about if and when that project is moving forward, so stay tuned for that.

Her son was her editor latterly so it sounds promising.

Best news so far this year!

Dear readers,
We're delighted to confirm that Thomas & Mercer have signed a contract with Anselm Audley (www.anselmaudley.com), Lizzy's son and editor of A Man of Some Repute and A Question of Inheritance, to finish the third Selchester novel. A first draft, based on her extensive notes, conversations in the last weeks of her life, and the existing early scenes, was completed in December. Publication is scheduled for September 2017.
Anselm is a novelist, editor, and historian, author of four fantasy novels - Heresy, Inquisition, Crusade and Vespera (none, alas, currently available online) - and more recently the nonfiction Kindle Singles The Day Democracy Died (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Day-Democracy- ... ndle-Singl…/…/), Death Keeps His Court (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Death-Keeps-Hi ... -Richard-e…/…/) and Plato and the Tyrant (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tyrant-Kindle- ... Anselm-Aud…/…/).
In addition, there are three Elizabeth Aston titles awaiting release later this year. We will update you all closer to the date. Thanks and happy reading!

Whoopee!!! I held off reading the last two Mountjoys and the Selchester books as long as I could but succumbed a couple of weeks ago whilst in the grip of the ubiquitous lurgy that is felling so many people.

So this is very pleasing news, thanks for sharing it sealpuppy.

The Selchester Mysteries seem to be 99p on Kindle for the next month. I shall give 'em a try!

The third and final Selchester Mystery is available for pre-order. Not due to be published until September, unfortunately; when I got the Amazon e-mail about it, I thought it would be ideal summer reading, until I saw the publication date.

Thanks, JayB - I'm sure I saw a note somewhere saying Christmas so that's better, even though it's a wait.
