I received Uprooted by Naomi Novik for Christmas and only got around to starting it yesterday. I finished it today much to the detriment of all the tasks I had planned for the weekend.

It's a fantasy novel, with very fairytale-ish elements and I just fell in love with it. I'm not very good with descriptions so I won't even try but it felt like it could be an older sister of sorts to Robin Mckinleys Beauty and Spindle's end and for me that is a very high compliment.

If you like fairy tales I would really recommend looking at it and giving it a go. She seems to have written a series of books prior to this but I have to admit I had never heard of her before.

Oh, do read at least the first couple of books in her Temeraire series, Brie. They're funny and appealing, and quite dramatic at times. They're sort of fantasy and history combined.

I haven't read them (yet) but my sister says they are really good!
