I can't remember on which thread we were discussing the Cook sisters the other day. Opera goers during the thirties, they were the unlikely rescuers of a number of Jews from Austria and I think Germany.

Ida Cook was a best selling romantic novelist under the name of Mary Burchell - there are three of her books on offer at the moment....1940s/50s chick lit :D

Oh, I missed that thread. I have "We Followed Our Stars" here and really enjoyed it.

It was on the second page of Real Chalet School Girl topic (about Lucy Worsley) in Lemon Biscuits and Liberty Bodices. Thank goodness for the Search function!

The Kindle versions are so cheap that I've bought all three!
I'm half way through Safe Passage as recommended in the other thread. :) :)

I have just read the first three, thanks to Kindle, and am also looking out for the others. I think charity shops - the ones that have big boxes of Mills and Boon books in a corner, not those that dispose of the books for shredding.

There are also some on Amazon for reasonable prices, and ebay too but I am going to trawl the shops first...

It's also worth checking the local library because I suspect Mary Burchell may still be around in some places.
