Noreen, .thank you! I had a great time. The film, Mary Queen of Scots, was on in the tiny Dumfries cinema so went to see that. Of course not historically a curate but the two female leads, Ronan and Robbie, excellent. I completely missed David Tennant as John Knox though.

We went to Castle Douglas for the first time and also Carlisle. We were in a couple of antique shops and also some bookshops - old and new. I have recently started reading the odd Cherry Ames book for the first time since girlhood and bought Rural Nurse - still to read, and a few others. Also went to Saturday afternoon evensong ? I am Church of Scotland so hope that is correct.

Chattie, tortoise sounds great. Has he been around/yours for long?

Vienna, flowers, opera, butterflies, tea rooms and bacon butties sound good too! Hope I have not missed anything out. Also , the book club. I was in one years ago but I always felt my opinions not so good as the others (not good at that kind of thing) so left it!

That sounds like a perfect trip, Audrey, especially as it included book buying!

Had a lovely equinox ritual with some fellow Pagans today. I feel it's brought in some peace and balance that I've been lacking lately, what with everything. Hopefully I can hang on to it a while!

Great to read about everyone having such a good time.

I was delighted to discover today that Lufthansa will start direct flights from Newcastle to Munich 6 days a week from next February. Not only should it be cheaper, but also a lot quicker as the flight time is only 2 hours. (With a bit of luck and a following wind, 6½ hours from door to door.) At the moment I usually fly via Amsterdam. My last journey back took 15 hours.

That sounds like a massive improvement.

I'm still away traveling. I've now reached Rhodes where I decided to go diving. Awesome experience

Glad to read such happy news! Mine seems a bit double-edged but, having quit a toxic job earlier this year, I've just found out my replacement and another person have quit. It's reassuring that I took the right decision, even if very sad for the organisation.

I was treated very badly in a job years ago, and found myself telling a sympathetic person at a job agency a bit about it afterwards ... and he said that he'd heard almost identical stories about the same firm from two other people. It's not pleasant, but, as you say, at least you know that you're well out of there.

I think I'm only just realising how toxic my work environment was. I had four interviews last week and in every case I went away thinking how non-judgemental and decent these people are. So glad I took redundancy. And, yes, I do have a new job.

Congrats exile! That's great news on the job. I am still realising how bad it was. it definitely takes a while. I was shocked to get an email from new boss thanking me and congratulating me for doing something for her.

Gosh*, am spreeing but over a week apart! Just had a lovely, if somewhat damp, day with Jools in Chambery! We were strong CS types and soldiered on when it started pouring during our hike to come down into the town to find it hadn't rained there! We upgraded kaffee und kuchen to beer as a reward ;-)

Lovely birthday celebrations today but the icing on the (birthday) cake was a message from a friend on the other side of the world who I had thought was lost and gone forever.

Happy birthday from me too....

I just noticed that today is my tenth anniversary on CBB. So I would like to thank all those involved in running the Board and greet all the friends I have made on it in the past ten years.

I still very much enjoy it despite the departure of much of the activity to what I see as a somewhat less salubrious place...

Well done on lasting the pace, Cestina!

As you say much less activity as compared with times gone by and Facebook undoubtedly main, or only, reason.
