Happy retirement, Chattie. The novel sounds like quite a research job! And well done white queen.

Sealpuppy's new book is available from today huzza! It is already waiting for me on my Kindle - it is badly needed in these daft, chaotic times.

Here it is :D

I have been to the library and chosen my own books (and returned the ones I've had since March!)

Hope you're OK, Cestina - the BBC's just been reporting on the situation in your neck of the woods  . Will this never end?!

Libraries in some neighbouring boroughs have reopened, but not here - there's an order and collect service, but only at one place, which is 6 miles away. I've got a huge backlog of Kindle and paper books anyway, but it's a shame for people who haven't.

Yes we are fine thanks Alison - the situation is mainly limited to Prague and some other areas of the Czech Republic. So far South Bohemia, where we are, is doing well.

On Friday I have to drive my daughter to Prague Airport as she is heading back, with trepidation, to the UK. But I will not leave the car and will head straight back to my village an hour and a half south of Prague.

I see that WHO are today stating that the pandemic is only just beginning....

I hope it goes okay.

We have escaped down to Devon for a few days. Very grateful to have got that in before another lockdown.

Have a lovely time Exile. We are on tenterhooks waiting for our getaway. It was booked for the first week of lockdown in March and rearranged for the 9th October.... Will we ever get there? Watch this space.

Have a great time, exile. Delrima, I hope your holiday happens. Where are you going?
I hope you both have good weather too.

SLOC and I have just come back from three days away on the North German coast. so wonderful to be able to walk along the tide-line even if it took five minutes walking to reach the sea. Not very good weather but I didn't care - I was by the sea!

Nowhere exotic, Frau. Just Fylingthorpe above Robin Hood's Bay in N Yorks. In fact only about 30 odd miles from where we live, but a different area for walks and (maybe) eating out. Just to be away, really. Whatever, even if places are closed and we have to picnic all the time and cook in the cottage we'll still enjoy it. - North East coast weather permitting.

I hope everyone else hoping and longing for an escape manages to get away. We all need and deserve it this year.

Fylingthorpe sounds good to me. A change of scenery (with walks) does wonders for the soul. There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing. Or in my case, if it's pouring down, I'll stay indoors.
Hope everyone gets to enjoy their planned breaks.

The sun is shining here and I'm off to open air yoga later - taking lots of layers though as it will get cold by the end.

Keep smiling, everyone.

I remember that area quite well - growing up in South Yorkshire, the Yorkshire coast was one of our preferred holiday destinations! Are the 3 'balls' from the DEW station still in place at Fylingdales, or have they been demolished?

Also hoping that anyone planning a break manages to get it.
Cestina, I hope your daughter has got away OK (Yes, I know that's not a holiday break, but...!) and that you are safely back home again.

Sadly gone, Elder. It's a whopping great almost-pyramid now. Being first to spot the golf balls used to be cause for celebration on a 'run out' over the moors when I was a kid.

Translation: A 'run out' was done in a car not on foot!

Yes thanks Elder, easy journey for both of us. She says Prague Airport was like a ghost town, lots of room on the plane, and even Stansted was pretty empty. No one was the least bit interested in the arriving passengers or their locator forms.

If another full lockdown hits the UK who knows what will happen to her actual moving plans? I have to say I am happier to be here in the CR should I be unlucky enough to get Covid, even though the numbers are rising here too. I wish my whole family were here.

ETA Not so much because of the actual health care I hasten to add, but because of the apparent organisational chaos in England.

Oh that is sad - I think the ones at Menwith Hill near Harrogate must also have gone? They were quite a landmark on 'run outs' over Blubberhouses Moor.

Cestina, I'm glad to hear your daughter has arrived back in the UK safely; I do hope that things will go smoothly with her moving plans despite all.
