I've just read the BBC's on-line report - that must have been a truly fantastic day of cricket to watch. The only thing I didn't pick up from that is just when the England team was bowled out (no declaration, I note) and how long the NZ team had to try and chase those 345 runs. Does anyone on here know?

I was listening but can't remember exactly - I'd say we were bowled out about an hour before lunch.

ETA yes, just been back to check - last English wicket fell at 11.51; NZ innings started at 12.01 and their first wicket fell at 12.03 [and their second at 12.09!] There were 77 overs left in the day when their innings started.

Yes, well done England! And Stokes was an excellent call. It was a great day at the cricket but I clearly curse the Kiwis at Lord's so not going again ;)

I only saw the highlights on Channel 4 and wished I could have seen more.

Great to see England win for a change. (With apologies to CBBers from NZ!)

And so to Trevor Bayliss as the new England coach...

Interesting choice to have the person they didn't appoint last time. (I suppose it is possible that he didn't want the job last time around and has been talked into it this time).
Possibly also a positive sign that the ECB have finally accepted that you can't play Twenty/20 and other limited overs cricket in the same way as Test matches.

Indeed, the Beeb are reporting that he'd rejected the job offer twice before finally accepting

The Test's been rather fun but England's inability to hold catches is a bit worrying. The bowlers have been looking a bit pedestrian today with Ali's rather disappointing run continuing.

Well-deserved win for New Zealand!

It's been an exciting series. Pity there was only two matches!

Yes, NZ deserved to win, though I wish England could have played better. Time for Belly to go I think...

I missed it all, although my friend very cleverly tweeted an update so I could follow at work. It's such a shame it was only a two-test series...

I'm off to the ODI at Edgbaston next week - really excited, as I've never been to a match this big before!

I once managed to get sunburnt at Edgbaston - I must be the only person who can get sunburnt in Birmingham!

Have a lovely day :D. If you pass the university, which is also in Edgbaston, give it my nostalgic regards :D .

I pop over to the university now and then, Alison, as it is home to an Ancient Near Eastern department (run by one of the many nutters in my field of work!), so I will send your regards next time I'm there :)

(But I'm afraid I must disappoint you, for I also have been sunburned in Birmingham!)

I agree. He's underperformed for some time and when people start mentioning those "big scores" in the World Cup, they somehow forget to mention that the "big scores" in recent years have come against weak bowling attacks. He can't score against the better bowlers.

I welcome Cook's return to form but still think he should be sacked as captain

But who could captain instead of Cook?

Without Bell, we have a horrifically inexperienced middle order, plus there's no one really capable of replacing him from county cricket at the moment. I stand by the "Form is temporary, class is permanent" statement - Bell clearly has class, he's just lost his form a bit. He also scored better than everyone in the middle order but Root in the Windies and no one's calling for their heads. He deserves the time to get back into form.
