I'm off to the ODI at Edgbaston next week - really excited, as I've never been to a match this big before!

Expecting updates throughout the day to supplement the TMS coverage then!

Morgan and Root's partnership was excellent - fun to watch, especially once Morgan started to get round the NZ defensive tactics that hemmed him in at first. Alas, both gone now and Stokes and Buttler are taking a while to get going - ones and twos rather than the fours we've come to expect! Still great fun though. Can't offer constructive analysis as I'm a relative amateur at observing cricket, especially since all the telly went over to Sky…

Oh, Stokes has just gone. Fingers crossed for a better partnership with Billings

Finn, I think you should go to all England's ODIs if this is the effect your presence has :D .

Absolutely amazing game and a great win!

All the better for being unexpected.

Absolutely! Caught the end of England's innings with all the records falling. Then hearing the wickets throughout the NZ innings and great win!

Buttler Man of Match

Rashid done really well too

It was a brilliant match - fantastic atmosphere throughout, with a brief dip when England looked in danger of collapsing before Buttler and Rashid got stuck in. Plenty of cheers for Rashid from the Barmy Army when he was bowling - Finn too (no-one told me I'd be bowling ;) ). Really really good day out.

It's just taking a long time to get home!

Question to all cricketing fans (and I include myself): How do you pronounce Arundel? I am listening to LBC News and am puzzled by their rendering of it!

I say "run" for the middle syllable. They don't.....

Post subject:  Re: Cricket

I know how I say it, but I'm trying to think of how to express it in writing  . I say it more as r'n than run, but I'm not sure if that makes sense in writing. And the way I pronounce most southern place names sounds nothing like the way that people who come from there do, so I'm probably a bad example  .

They seem to be rhyming "run" with "moon"....

it's been such a crazy week that this was the first match I got to catch up on. What a week of cricket!

No, I definitely wouldn't do that  .

Calling all people from Sussex to help us on this one!

Definitely does not rhyme with moon! Main stress on first syllable, second syllable almost swallowed, last syllable neutral - so
    'Arr-unn-dle

Got caught out by this in Sheffield where you say it a-RUN-dull. (Arundel Gate being a road in the City centre where a lot of 'buses stop).

It does refer to the same word - the Duke of Norfolk in his role as Earl of Arundel used to own Sheffield (basically) and still plays a role in the area.

I keep spreeing (sorry Mods, it is justified!)

NZ and England have been so impressive and so exciting in this ODI series. It's lovely to think that they are, collectively, about to make a record.

Love the way NZ play, and their sportsmanship.

I'm amazed our batsmen have matched them so consistently. Really bright future (apparently) for the England ODI team at the moment.

Bowlers still need some rules shifting in their favour though!

Looks as though the weather may be the winner in this match, a drawn series would be a fair result considering how well both teams have played, but a pity if it's because of rain

Duckworth/Lewis win again!

It's under these kind of circumstances that you realise just how good Test Match Special is.

Post subject:  Re: Cricket

Well, I have been jolly surprised by the 1st Test!

All those problems that England have been having - Cook's dodgy fielding decisions, the droppy fielding, the batting collapses, the bowlers being unable to get wickets - seem to have melted like snow in the summer sunshine. Ali has come good, both batting and bowling and Root's been brilliant.

Was rather expecting Australia to be harder opposition than NZ but we haven't seen it so far.
