I do wish players would do as I say! I knew playing Cincy straight after the Olympics, after 2 1/2 months out, was a bad idea :( . Especially with flying home and then back again. Jem would never have allowed it.

He apparently did so to boost his chances of getting through to London, Alison. Stan also went out and he didn't play the Olympics, as did Tsonga and Kei. So Rafa is in fine company! Andy may well follow when he plays later on. Kei, Rafa and Andy must be knackered from Rio.

Cincy seems to be cursed this year! Nole and Roger aren't playing, Rafa had a bad cold and his shoulder was hurting, Andy's had to have a medical time out because his shoulder was hurting, Kei had a medical time out on Wednesday and then lost yesterday, and Gael's pulled out with a bad back!

Are the stars aligning for Kyle Edmund to beat an out-of-practice Nole?

I live in hope ...

I feel as if I'm having horrible flashbacks. It's 1989, the 4th round of the US Open has turned into a disaster, and it's my first day back at school and I don't want to go.

No, it's 2016, the 4th round of the US Open has turned into a disaster, and I don't want to go to work because there's nothing to do ...

Karolina and Kristyna Pliskova are identical twins, like Bob and Mike Bryan are. Very GO  .

I've rather lost interest now - Tsonga retiring hurt as well as *all* the other retirements/walkovers that have benefited Djokovic, and Wawrinka beating Del Potro ... I don't dislike Nishikori as much as I do Djoko and Wawrinka, but he doesn't excite me.
Looking forward from here, I'd love to see a Monfils/Nishikori final, but I don't think it's going to happen.

Ah now my ideal final would be Wawrinka and Monfils but as Monfils was beating in 4 by Djokovic, I will take Wawrinka as I don't rate Kei at all.

I quite agree with the ridiculousness of all the retirements - against the 1 player! :banghead: you couldn't make it up.

It would be a nice birthday present (it's on Monday)

Who would've thought it, eh? :D I'm so pleased. Even if he doesn't manage to get it, he has an excellent shot in the first part of the year because of the time off he took when his daughter was born and his early exits in the two masters tournaments in March means he isn't defending that many points (in the grand scheme of things) whereas Djokovic is, having won them.

Edited for clarification
