And from me, Doot. Surely the powers that be will take this into consideration?

Thank you, everyone. I have just been speaking to him and apparently the problem is that the change has happened before he has closed his research (or something). Had he done that it wouldn't have mattered. He can defer submission for up to a year, apparently, as they acknowledge that the situation is not his fault, and after discussion with his tutor thinks that he will take advantage of that and take his time redoing it. It is such a shame, but he says he simply cannot do it in five weeks as he has a big project at work at the moment as well. He feels he has invested far too much (effort and money!) to risk it. It is annoying and means he still has a lot of work to do but there you go! He will just finish next year instead.

I must say, I am most impressed how he has taken it. He wouldn't have been as philosophical a few years ago.

Positive thoughts and hugs to all who need them.

I met my best friend yesterday for the first time since her sister's funeral, though we've been texting daily. We've both been busy, and I was sick too when we were meant to meet up last, so it was lovely to catch up over lunch. She told me all about the funeral, and how they made thousands of pounds for cancer. It would have been her sister's 40th birthday a few Saturdays ago, so they held a bar-be-que to mark the occasion.

That's such bad luck, Doot. It seems very hard that he's got to redo it because of circumstances beyond his control.

Prayers and positive thoughts for all who need them.

The news on D is not good. He was admitted to hospital on Thursday with extremely high blood sugar and swollen legs.

As of this morning, his blood sugar has gone down to 8, which is still higher than it should be, but at its peak it reached 39 - fortunately he was already in hospital at that stage.

Continuing prayers and positive thoughts for him, his wife (who has advanced MS) and his family would be appreciated.

Definitely thinking of D and his family, Carol.

Thank you so much to those thinking of my mum... she has now handed in her resignation at work, which I'm really pleased about. She's extremely capable of sticking up for herself, but even so the pressure has been really bad for her, and it doesn't help that my sister (who has ME) has had a couple of illnesses over the last couple of months and still hasn't really recovered, so my mum's been having to put in a lot more time than usual to look after her (not that she would at all resent that but it's just more stuff that she has to do when she doesn't have a lot of strength herself). So I'm glad she's only got a few more weeks there now.

BUT, and it's a biggish one, the house still hasn't sold and my mum doesn't have a lot of money, and it's a biggish house and the mortgage and bills are pretty hefty. Plus both she and my sister just want to get the move done and over with as soon as possible. So, continued thoughts and prayers for that would be appreciated so much.

Yes of course, Caroline - poor Nicola. SLOC had glandular fever in the early years of our marriage, but made a good recovery, so I hope she does too.

Lots of positive thoughts coming to you and Caroline, Nicola. I had glandular fever when I was 40 and it wasn't pleasant.

Sorry to hear that Caroline. I too have had it, brother and son as well. She should take great care at this stage to not struggle to do things. It can all be made up later if necessary.

Good luck to both of you.
