See what you mean. My father was an advocate of the "sit over there and copy what I do" school of shoelace tying. As a result I tend to tie them left handed.

It also worked for ties

Do you stand (kneel?) behind your daughter so you're in the same position as her, RubyGates, so she's not copying, but doing the same as you're doing? That's how I taught mine to tie laces and her tie. But, hey, I'm probably teaching my granny to suck eggs!

Edited to make sense re RubyGates' daughter.

I've been sitting with her, tying the laces on one shoe while she tries to do the other :)

I'm feeling positively seasick. I've just watched a Youtube video of a boat trip through the Gulf of Corryvreckan, and through the Grey Dogs maelstrom as well. I wish I hadn't watched the video, just read the information.

I feel duly punished for wanting to know more about the massive variety of things that make up the British Isles.

It can be dangerous when it's not stormy, too. I went on a boat trip a couple of years ago to experience Corryvreckan. It was a very still day and the sea was calm, and we were waiting in the middle of the sound between the islands when the surface of the sea began to shimmer as though it was being heated, and the fairly large boat suddenly tilted alarmingly to one side. All of this took place in absolute silence. It was undoubtedly the eeriest thing I've ever experienced, and the skipper hastily started the engine and got us away from there, about which I was very relieved!

I'm so tired. And I have my third headache of the last five days.

Now I have a miserable cold. I'm just so tired of all this.

Abi, you've been in this sort of state before and have got over it. You'll do it again, I'm sure of that.

Do one small job and do it well. Look back on the doing with pride, and let it boost your confidence.

Take it from there.

I've got a cold too, Abi - I'll share my bulk buy of tissues with you! I just hope it clears - or improves a bit - before I have to present a paper at the Bristol Conference on Saturday morning!

Oh, lucky you to be on so early in the conference, Abbeybufo. I'm right at the end, when everyone's mind will be on travel (or cake!) and concentration will be flagging. Or maybe that's a good thing. I'll be sure to talk quietly so's not to wake people up!

Well 9.45 on the first day is a mixed blessing, I feel, but that is what I was told is on the provisional timetable; and at least I'm then free to enjoy the rest of the weekend without anticipatory nerves!

[Still full of cold :( ]

Well I do have some pictures, so you'll have something other than my red nose to look at!

I hope your cold gets better pronto, Ruth. Mine is still horrid and today a nice headache has come along to join it. I feel as though I'm never going to be well again. Properly well, I mean. I know that sounds melodramatic but I can't help it; that's how I feel.

Oh, hugs to Abi (while wearing a face mask, of course). Don't ever think of it as 'just a cold': my mum coped really well with what were really quite devastating health problems EXCEPT when she had a cold on top of it all. It was the one thing that really knocked her down although some people would - and did - say it was the least of her problems. Take care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon.xxx

Thanks Abi!

Have another box of virtual tissues and a cold lavender-water compress for the headache.

JS, hopefully I'll be able to hug you for real on Friday, as long as the lurgy has gone by then!

((Abi)) - colds can really get you down, but they do go away after a while. Hope you feel better soon.

Really hoping that I have better days at work then I did last weekend. Hate that you can't do right from wrong.Admittedly Sunday was the best day out of the whole weekend. And it helped matters that I got an apology from one of the nurses Saturday morning. Now I just have to face another person on Friday when I see her, I'm wondering if I will get another apology, but I shan't hold my breath. Sigh!

I hope the lurgy has definitely left by Friday so that you can both hug freely! Best wishes for both your talks - I am sad not to be joining you as I had originally hoped but I am still firmly located in the CR. Back to UK for a week on Tuesday.

I will be with you in my thoughts!
