I've just read, for the first time, Helen McInnes' book 'Above Suspicion'.

A young married couple become entangled in Nazi intrigues just after the Germans have taken over Austria.

The book is very detailed about the German menace, how quickly life became dangerous, and also how brave some Austrians were in helping absolute strangers whose lives were in danger.

Oh yes, it was set in and around Pertisau for a good deal of the action.

I'm worse! I work doing internet orders and names and addresses invariably get me thinking " I wonder if they're related to so-and-so? - books AND musicals!!! :dontknow:

Yes I do that with patients. Lots of ours join from friend and family recommendation, as we don’t really do much advertising. So I’m quite used to seeing a name and wondering whether they are connected to each other - can’t ask unless they say, with patient confidentiality.

So I often spend half the test of a Chalet School name thinking, I wonder if they are related to... then realising NO, they won’t be. :banghead:

Isn't it? If we were in one of the CS books, the silence would probably be followed by an enormous roll of thunder and a torrential storm, with a flood to finish off!

I know, isn't that GREAT?

I'm finally re-reading as many CD books as I have, and am in a renewed state of "this is the BEST!"

Not just here, but many forums are apparently declining to varying extents, for whatever reason. The main forum I use is certainly not the hugely active, bustling site it used to be, many users have quit altogether or post irregularly now.

The remaining members keep it relatively active though, at least for now.
All I usually do is move threads to the right section there, there is little else to moderate any more and other mods tend to get there first.

Anyway, the Second Sight (mentioned in Highland Twins) was discussed on the Radio 4 programme The Evidence recently, though I shouldn't think it mentions the school! (didn't catch the whole episode).

And I found a pack of Italian Lemon Biscuits in TK Maxx (a discount shop if you don't know it) recently. They are small round soft balls with a lemon filling, with Italian and German text on the pack. Similar to the tin of soft Italian amaretti that I got as well.

I think it's a case of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram conquer all - people are spending so much time on there that other fora are losing out, because there's only so much time in the day!

There's also apparently been a massive falling off in what is knows as "Craftyblogland" (my daughter crafts..) with people no longer blogging. I am not sure where they are going. Facebook probably. She doesn't, she continues to blog about what she makes, as do I.

The CBB seems to go through phases. We will have a quiet couple of weeks, maybe, and then it picks up again. And then another quiet week (and repeat). Of course, the board was down for quite some time recently, too, which can’t have helped.

But I do think we rely on a hardcore of regular posters to prompt and pique the interest of the less regular (like me). I visit the site every day, but I don’t post very often. My bad... It looks like there are only 3 users online at the moment.

I've noticed over the years that Sunday morning tends to be a quiet time on here, though. More than a few of our members are at church or equivalents, and a lot of the populace does the weekly shop on a Sunday, so maybe that accounts for some more.

I happily will, once I've read a few more books and therefore have a grip of what's going on in them! Now I know more about life in the 1920s and '30s, as well as having learned German since I first started reading them, it's like reading them for the first time.

The Sally Denny Library seems pretty quiet, as well. I've got some new fanfic planned; I hope it'll find an audience. (Again, I've learned a lot!)

We haven't been able to log into the SDL for some time now ... it is still possible to read what is there, but not to add to it.
