Ahh I feel a bit better now, no thanks to fucking racist orange climate-change-denialistic idiots. Phew.

I also hate Donald Trump, not that Hillary Clinton would likely have been much better. Why on earth is he being allowed a state visit to Britain, and his attitude towards China seems especially disturbing to me. The subject (unsurprisingly really) has generated 100s of threads and heated debate on the main forum I use. As an aside, the swear filter there is quite strictly enforced, a bit like with slang at the CS. Personally I've always sworn frequently myself (at least in private) and really don't mind seeing swearwords. There doesn't seem to be any filter on this site, but I guess it's not needed because swearing on here is so rare, and never used for trolling, insulting other members, etc.

Does any one else feel re:Trump that they are living in a film? I think I am in Back to the Future where Biff Tannon has stolen the sports almanac and created an alternate reality. Come back Marty McFly and save us!

I keep hoping he's not real (and actually the result of George Orwell staying up all night with unlimited quantities of Crystal Meth) but am very much afraid it's All True.

I don't think it's a coincidence that George Orwell's book 1984 has suddenly returned to the best-sellers' lists since Trump took office!!

You want fiction? This comment on DT was posted to a friend on FaceBook "His intentions are good and he's brought some of the brightest and most experienced minds to Washington at severe financial sacrifice to themselves to help him get our country back on its feet so it can continue to be the most generous nation on the planet."

Trump actually looks a bit like he's made out of Plasticine. His brain is certainly made out of the stuff, which is rather an insult to Plasticine. But they both seem to meld themselves into the most awful colours. Maybe he'd melt if he had to step out into the kind of rain I got drenched in earlier. We should test that when he comes out to the UK. :dontknow:

It concerns me that some very urgent and serious issues elsewhere in the world are being ignored because of the overwhelming focus on events in the US. Tens of thousands of Rohingya Muslims fleeing persecution in Burma/Myanmar have fled across the border into Bangladesh, but Bangladesh cannot support them and wants to send them back and, in the meantime, wants them to stay on a low-lying island which is susceptible to flooding and disease. The UN released a report yesterday accusing the Burmese security forces of offences including gang-raping women and murdering children. Where are all the protests and petitions about this? I don't think it was even mentioned on the main news bulletins here, and I haven't heard one politician speak out about it.

Then there's the conflict in Yemen. This has attracted a bit of coverage, but only because of people wanting to use it as a way of criticising Western governments. The Red Cross has launched an urgent appeal because the damage to ports there means that food imports are not getting through and people, in a country which imports 90% of its food, are starving. Where are the protests and petitions about this?

There are many worrying stories coming out of the US at the moment. I love the US - American history is one of my main subjects, and I've visited the country several times and have friends and family there - and obviously events in a "superpower" are of concern to everyone, but it seems that urgent issues elsewhere are being completely overlooked in the meantime.

It's hard to find a balance. I agree that news sources shouldn't concentrate on one issue to the exclusion of all others. On the other hand, I can't and won't think it's a bad thing that there's such an enormous outcry against Trump - he's the president of a country that, like it or not, has a huge influence in the world, and I think it's massively important that we make it clear that his behaviour is not acceptable.

Does anyone honestly think that DT will take any notice of anything that he doesn't want to notice or do anything about?

I'm still in a state of unbelief that they actually elected him as POTUS, but then, Hillary Clinton was her own worst enemy during the election campaign.

Not to mention that even if Lord Dampnut takes no notice, some of his supporters/voters may and that could effect change or something. :dontknow: I'd infect him with my germs but I don't have a passport or an Abra (and I've never been to America so an Abra would be useless anyway).

What is an Abra? Do you mean an ESTA? Just tried Google and it said that an Abra was a Pokémon figure  . Although maybe Pokemons have more sense than most politicians of any party or in any country  .

Yes, Abra is a psychic Pokémon that only knows Teleport making it difficult to catch and annoying to level up (pre Pokémon X and Y, anyway).

And of course Pokémon are more sensible/smart than politicians. All 802 known species are.
