I've had my hair cut for the first time in 8.5 years. I feel free! *shakes short hair joyfully* :D

Enjoy shortness! It's a weird but nice feeling, there's a huge weight after a while with really long hair.

My new granddaughter is due to be christened next week. When my husband and I found out the date we searched the internet for a suitable gift which could be engraved as a keepsake. We finally agreed on a silver plated Noah's Ark money box which we had engraved. It has been gift wrapped for about four weeks. Chatting with my daughter on the bus this week she mentioned that she and husband had just ordered a christening gift for their daughter. They settled on a silver plated Noah's Ark money box which was being engraved! We both ordered from different websites. I do hope that these will encourage Rachel's saving habits and that she doesn't think we were ganging up on her.

Minim, enjoy your short hair. I wore mine long for years when I was younger, but decided in my thirties that I was too old for long hair. I would never grow it long again it's just too much trouble.

I now keep my hair about two inches long.

I lost most of it during chemotherapy, but still had a Tin-Tin quiff at the front. Yes, it's grown back, but it's thinner and won't grow any longer that three inches.

What's really great is that I no longer have to shave my armpits and my legs. Hair just doesn't grow there any longer.

Oh well, I'm 72, so leg-shaving is no longer a grooming must, but it's really good not to have to bother at all.

Beat you there Abbey - I am 75 and cannot remember the last time I shaved my legs, somewhere in my twenties I reckon....

At school we used that appalling-smelling Veet stuff

Minim, you just haven't lived if you haven't hopped around trying to staunch the bleeding cuts on your legs.

Me neither, I'm a year older than you.

Not that I tend to show them off very often

I don't think I've ever shaved my legs in my almost 77 years (much to the envy of others when I was younger!) But I do recall using Veet on underarms - truly foul-smelling stuff in our day, Cestina - though I think they may have been able to infuse it with a less noxious scent in recent years.

Mine do get shown off quite a lot but I can't really claim credit for Hairy Feminism or anything, because my leg hair is both blonde and relatively sparse, so it's barely visible anyway!

I must admit that mine is also blonde, although there is a fair bit of it.

Nowhere near as bad as it used to though. I used it recently and was almost pleasantly surprised at the smell. Still nasty but a lot better than years ago.

I have my own reasons for not shaving or anything like that. I'm just fascinated by how we've managed to get a whole conversation out of it.

I shave and remember veet -it had a horrible smell indeed!! I get my chin and eye brows waxed and they always feel nice afterwards.

I now get everything waxed - thankfully my legs don't need it often, as I have fair hair that hardly shows, and not much of it - but I do remember how horrible Veet was when I used to do my underarms with it.
