I'm afraid I don't like the Wham song - or, more particularly, the video that goes with it. But then I'm the wrong generation for Wham. Last Christmas (see what I did there?!) I was mourning Rick Parfitt, not George Michael.

I do think the in your face commercialisation of Christmas, and competitive spending, is way over the top now, and just makes it harder for those who are alone for whatever reason.

Our Christmas got off to a' flying' start! Meant to be flying back to Bristol yesterday evening for a packed week seeing family and friends over the festive period. But a plane overshoot the runway at Bristol yesterday morning causing the airport to close. We were 3O mins from Geneva Airport when Easyjet said the flight was 'postponed' until 6.30pm this evening. However irritating it is (and it as a we will now not be able to make lunch with my brother and his family, visit my uncle and aunt, or have dinner this evening with friends) I cannot fault Easyjet's customer service. They've put us up in the nearby Crowne Plaza Hotel with vouchers for dinner, breakfast and lunch.

Oh no! You think of bad weather or even airline strikes, but not a one in a million thing like that. Enjoy the Crowne Plaza, and I hope you make it home today.

Thank you both. Sitting in the hotel lobby for another hour or so - decide it would be more comfortable than the airport :)

My daughter and our two grandchildren (aged 8 and 11) tried to fly out of Geneva at 2pm on Monday afternoon, Jools - but there was thick fog here in Manchester, and then one of our runways closed, leaving only the one, so daughter and children didn't leave there till about 9pm. Nearly midnight when they arrived here and the children asleep on their feet. EasyJet did provide food etc, but it's not easy with young children and we did text her to go home - but they stoically stuck to their plans. Home again now, but a good time was had by all.

Enjoy your Christmas trip, despite the problems, Jools! :)

ETA to change the day - no fog on Tuesday!

Glad your daughter and grandchildren had a good time Mary. We're safely home now - although a bottle of sodastream tonic water syrup exploded in my suitcase (which we were bringing back for friends) leaving a sticky mess over all my clothes! Still child number two washed them for me and cleaned my suitcase while we were at a friend's.

Hope you made it Jools.

I have a stinking cold, which means taking yet more time off work. So annoying.

Back at work today. There's only about 4 people in, but the manager has decided that he will hold all his meetings today at his desk right next to me.

Wish he'd worked from home!

Condolences to everyone who is suffering from any cause at all.

I'm just appallingly tired. No sleep Thursday night, none on Friday night, and just three hours last night.

It's a good thing that Andrew is cooking dinner this evening.

First time I've been on here in over a week, server is down at home and Virgin Media seem to be having difficulties sorting it.

On top of something going on I now have this stupid cold everyone is getting. I had at least three people tell me about the Australian flu today too when they saw me!

There is a map on MSN which shows the places where one is most likely to catch australian flu.

Fortunately, I do not live in one of the places.

R.I.P. Ray Thomas of The Moody Blues who died last Thursday from prostate cancer. Wonderful group - their music has got me through some difficult times.

After a week of not sleeping with said stupid cold, I had a blessed 11 hours of uninterrupted sleep last night, but then woke up with a crick in my back from sleeping too long.

Oh well, at least the cold is going...

I was sad to hear this news. I was brought up listening to their music, and went to see them three times in concert.

Jayne, glad you got a good night's sleep.

Oh goodness, me too. Hugs to everyone who needs them! Hope no one has Aussie flu! I'm just having an incredibly tough week - health, personal, and work! I know it'll pass but it's not been a great few days. On top of that, all my friends' and family's woes from last year continue. I wish someone would cut them some slack!

Only saw them in concert once, at the Oxford Apollo May 2002. Full house. We all cheered when Justin came out alone at the beginning of the second half, we knew right away he was going to sing "Forever Autumn" from "War of The Worlds".

Get Well wishes and commiserations to all who need them.

I've managed to avoid most of the bugs that are doing the rounds so far, but I was up most of the night on Tuesday/Wednesday with the runs.

Thankfully, I'm a bit better today, but still taking it easy.

Thank you. I back to almost human now. I suspect I had two colds back to back, but whatever, they're going now.
