Costa Coffee ask me to review my experience of drinking a cup of tea or coffee every time I go in there!

Yesterday I had a text from my work friend, saying that so and so was in today; so where did I get that she was traveling back from Norfolk from today? She also said that I won't tell you what she said. I replied she told me, but I must have mis-heard; easily done - thing is this person doesn't like me very much ( my friend has told me before ) but I commented on this person's facebook posts yesterday; to which she replied...so if she was annoyed she wouldn't have done so! Maybe I'm reading too much into it?? My friend said That's obvious when I said I must have mis-heard. I don't get people at times :( every one makes mistakes...

I don't see how a little mistake like which day she was coming back from holidays would annoy anyone!
An old friend would have said "that's their stuff, it's not your stuff"... let them get on with being annoyed without you.

Sympathies, Emma. Sometimes you just have to accept that everyone is dealing with 'stuff' in their lives and their reaction to you in a particular situation may be nothing to do with you personally.

For example, I always smile at people I pass in the street, and greet the ones I know. Most people smile back, but there are always a few who don't (not usually people I know, thankfully). I long ago came to the conclusion that if they didn't smile back, I wouldn't worry about it, as it was their problem, not mine.

My whinge is that my blood sodium has gone down again. It's been on the low side for a while and I've been having regular blood tests. Two weeks ago, it had gone up to 132 (it's supposed to be above 135), so they wanted me to do another one in a week's time.

I didn't go last week, as the hospital where I go to Outpatients has also got involved and I had to go there for a blood and urine test. I couldn't see the point in having them too close together, even in different places, so I went to my own surgery on Monday.

I got the results back this morning, and it's gone down to 127. The receptionist told me that there was a note saying I needed to speak to the doctor. Then she said 'But we don't have any appointments for 2 weeks'! Si I said I'd try to see if I could book an earlier appointment online (only a couple of time slots ever available, so sometimes, but not always, you can get one sooner).

Our receptionists are really helpful most of the time (apart from one, with whom I've had disagreements on the phone). I've been calling in so regularly recently, that they greet me by name.

Maybe that's why she had a look on her computer and found me an appointment next Tuesday.

I'd like to think, too, that the hospital and my GP surgery get their act together and work together on this, but I'm not hopeful!

In myself I feel fine. I did have dizzy spells (one of the symptoms) a few weeks ago. But only 3 and definitely not regular enough to concern me.

I had a very forceful call from the doctor's surgery last Tuesday.

My blood-pressure is rather high, so obviously I need some treatment for it. So a doctor was supposed to call me on Thursday between 1 and 2pm. No call, so I sat in and waited for a call that never came.

Grr! I could have been out having a walk, a good thing for getting one's blood-pressure down.

And I wanted to ask why they had the self-test BP machine in a busy corridor,

Bah, that's so annoying, Jennie. I hope they've sorted something out for you by this time!

Today pictures came up from eight years ago in my facebook memories... really nice ones, of me and my sisters and our mum, and it reminded me how much better everything used to be. Mum laughing. My sister walking around with just her stick. Me healthy. I hate how things are now. It's so horrible.

All sorted out. I have an appointment on Tuesday 12th September. The first that they could give me.

And I had to call back to get this. Why do we have to verge on the unpleasant before we get our basic healthcare?

I phoned my GP surgery last Wednesday and they could only give me an appointment on 12th September. Admittedly I could probably have had one sooner if I didn't mind who I saw

I'm finding that I do better for appointments these days if I go for one of the ones allocated to online booking, but I know that not all GP practices have them.

We have online booking, but it doesn't let you book the first few appointments of the day, which are the best ones if you need to get to work.

And we have online booking but for a tiny number of appointments; they are always taken... I know doctor's surgeries are working people like the rest of us, but I do wish they stayed open later in the evening.

Those first thing in the morning appts are OK if you can get them (big if!), but I start work at 7am, so...! I really need appts after 5.30pm - or a Saturday morning, ideally prioritised for working people. My hairdresser manages it, my dentist manages it, my optician manages it - why not the doctors?

Whereas our surgery's online bookings can be made only for the first two or three of the day.

Although I'm not currently working, I agree with you and Caroline that GPs need to have more flexibility with surgeries because of all the people who otherwise have to take time off work to attend appointments. But with the current state of the NHS and the shortage of GPs, I can't realistically see the situation changing in the near future, in spite of the Tories' pledge to work towards a 7-day NHS.

I had yet another blood test on Thursday and should get the results on Monday. The HCA now greets me by name, as I've been there so often recently and her parting shot was 'See you next week'! I'm starting to feel like a pincushion.

The last appointments of the day at ours are at half 5. Going from my office to the surgery means I'm going away from the city centre, so I'm going the same way as all the rush hour traffic, so it takes ages to get there and there's no way I can do it without leaving work early. And that's even if I can get a late appointment. But I understand that it's difficult for doctors and other surgery staff too: the doctor I prefer to see has two young children, so it would be awkward for her to work evenings and weekends. It's the same with everything - like those "someone will be with you between 12pm and 5pm" repair appointments. I wish I knew what the answer was!

Well, my appointment on the 12th means that my coffee meeting with Jean will be curtailed.

Grr! I love sitting around having a leisurely mug of coffee, and chatting away with not a care in the world.

It's so good to be able to relax and not to have to think of the thousand things that I need to do.

Phone call at home yesterday afternoon. The conversation went something like this:

Him: This is [your electricity supplier]. I'm calling to check whether you're on the best possible tariff for your needs.
Me: OK, I'm listening.
Him: Would you like to have your gas supplied by us too?
Me: No, I'm not interested in changing my gas supplier.
Him: But [blah blah blah].
Me: I'm not interested in changing my gas supplier.
Him: But but but....
Me: No, I'm not interested.
And repeat a couple more times, then,
Him: I don't want to take up your time, but....
Me: You're already taking up my time. If you want to talk about my electricity tariff, I'm listening, but I do not want to change my gas supplier.
Him: Oh well, if you want to do that, you'll need to talk to customer services. I can't do anything.

Aaaargh!

I don't particularly want to change my gas supplier, but approaches like this make me not want to change it on principle.

I hope everyone else's whinges sort themselves out.

I didn't last til the 12th. I had to phone them on Tuesday and ask for different medication. Which I got, so at least I have different side effects now.
