Now informed I'll be coming into work only on Tuesdays and Thursdays because of personal problem people here are having with me. On the one hand it's a relief because I am in pain when I drive but on the other hand I'm going to be home alone 5 days a week and with not sleeping either I wonder how I'll cope.

Had a 6-month meeting with the man from the redeployment pool yesterday, my line manager was there too; if I don't find a permanent civil service job by 31 March 2018, I'm out.
Sorry to hear this has all come up again, Liz - but I remain very sceptical about your line manager. By civil service logic, if a situation is OK two days a week, it should be OK all the time, so cutting your days down to two makes no sense. Have you managed to get any independent advice, e g from the Citizens Advice Bureau or For You By You (what used to be called the Civil Service Benevolent Scheme)?

(((Liz))) - you definitely need to get some independent advice as it sounds like bullying. If people do genuinely have a problem with you, management should be working with them and you to try to resolve the issue and move forward, not restrict you to 2 days a week!

The Works are doing 5 children's books for £5 so with Christmas in mind, I thought it was worth investigating. They had some of the Jill Murphy Large family books but every single one was either covered in a sticky mess or had a sticky label mark on it. They all went back on the shelf. I really don't like it when shops stick labels on the front covers but I certainly don't want to buy books that are marked or covered in bits of sticky label etc.

Liz, get nasty back.

Ask for everything in writing, and I mean everything, including the records of complaints made against or about you.

Also, write a letter of complaint about your line manager, stating that you have endured her bullying, but will no longer do so.

AND GO THE THE CAB FOR HELP. ASAP!

Liz, I agree with what Jennie has said, get nasty

Catherine, sticky labels can be removed using Wet Wipes or baby wipes

Liz - as an ex-CAB manager of over twenty years experience, I cannot echo more strongly what the others have said. I know that it is now much harder to get to a CAB, and that they have in some areas restricted the help they can give people, but you urgently need to see someone to discuss the whole situation.

I assume that even if they are cutting your days in the office they are not cutting your salary? Because if they are, then you need to see someone even more urgently.

Has this sort of problem bedevilled your whole life in the civil service or has it only surfaced with this line manager? Because, like Noreen, I have grave doubts about her.

Catherine - apart from wet wipes there is the wonderful sticky stuff remover available from Lakeland. It sometimes surfaces in places like Aldi and Lidl as well, on a special offer. And oh look, there it is on ebay as well. A little goes a very long way. I wouldn't be without it.

It's frightening how much difference one difficult person (Miss Bubb?! Matron Webb?!) can make in a workplace. Echoing what everyone else has said about seeking independent advice. Or are you able to ask to see someone higher up the chain of command?

Liz, I know it can be difficult to get to get some assistance for myriad reasons when you're in the thick of it, but I'm adding my voice to the others. You really should get advice. Good luck!

Liz, we've not heard from you, so please let us know how things are going.

I had a flu jab last Saturday, and now have my wonderful annual cough and cold. I'm feeling truly miserable and tired.

I know I need the flu jab, but I do wish it didn't give me a cough and cold every year.

I am eligible for a flu jab because of a long-term medical condition.

I've only had one once, which was 3 years ago, when I'd just moved back to the North West after living in the South East. My GP surgery down there had never offered me one, but the nurse at my new surgery did.

I was rather unwell with flu-like symptoms for several days afterwards. I was told they couldn't possibly have been caused by the injection. However, I heard of several other cases locally of elderly people having more serious symptoms following their flu jabs. Presumably their immune systems weren't as strong as mine.

It probably didn't help in my case that I had my regular 10-weekly injection on the same day. As a mix of two such powerful drugs is probably not a good idea - it was the nurse's idea not mine!

I still get offered a flu jab every year, but I haven't had one since. I hardly ever get a cold in any case.

I've never had flu, and consequently have never bothered with a flu jab. I'd rather not mess with my natural immunity/luck.

Anyway I'm seeing enough of the medical profession as it is. I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow and my operation next week. Kind of looking forward to it as I am just fed up with my shoulder hurting all the time.

The flu shots have just arrived at my clinic, and I was reading the leaflet with the potential side effects/ I was interested to note that:

"Among teenagers vaccination may lead to syncope (fainting) even prior to administration of the vaccine!'

I decided not to have the flu jab after several friends of my age had very negative reactions to it. Having said that, I must remember that I do intend to have the pneumonia one....

Yeah, people definitely react to it! My sister gets offered it because of her asthma, but only gets it when she's well enough at the time because otherwise it can play merry hell with her ME/CFS. Such fun!

I've only been having the flu jab for a few years as my heart doctors have told me to have it.Though one year, only a few months after having the jab, I got flu -like symptoms and it felt just as bad as when I had it before years ago....never again *touches wood* trying to get in for it at the moment, but they only have clinics on days I am working just now.

I had the pneumonia one a few years back. Maybe a bit more painful than the flu one.

I was given the pneumonia one a year or two back on the same visit as the flu jab - so I had 2 sore arms that year...

I've just rung my usually "friendly" local taxi firm. Usually, I tell them that I want to get from A to B, arriving at B by such a time, and they recommend what time I should book the taxi for, as they know more about traffic conditions at different times of day in different parts of town than I do. However, they appear to have got someone new on the switchboard, and she refused point blank to suggest a time, in case I ended up being late and tried to blame her/sue the taxi firm :banghead: . I see her point, but when did everyone get so obsessed with rules and being sued that they aren't willing to provide decent customer service any more?
