Ah, but a chance to prove yourself, Liz.

I hope it wasn't a too miserable day Liz - and that you're now in front of the television with a glass of wine and your feet up!

Thanks Audrey, unfortunately he has still got a bad rash. I'm taking him to a holistic vet tomorrow to see if they can provide something that can help without affecting his already delicate digestive system...

Why is it so hard for people just to do their jobs properly? I put in a Delay Repay claim with Southeastern rail on the 7th March, it took them until the 13th to authorise it and I was told it would be paid by BACS within 14 days. 16 days later I'm still waiting. I contacted them via their website on Monday, still waiting for a reply, also chasing via Twitter.
I just get annoyed that it's always the customer who has to keep on chasing things up, I shouldn't have to if Southeastern would just do what they promised in the first place.

I tried to tell someone who had her nails done by her friend in gelish last week; that they can go wrong ( I knew this from my own beauty therapist) if you do them at home - and today she had put up an article on facebook which I shared so they could see ( not to prove anything!) and now I feel like I've put their backs up even though that was not my intention...she is a trained nail tech and they looked good, but it was just out of concern and now I feel like that I've done wrong. People!

Thoroughly frustrating morning:-

- tried to book a train ticket on-line, got as far as payment accepted and then "ticket could not be issued because of a technical failure".

- spent 15 minutes on 'phone before managing to speak to an HMRC technical advisor about a letter of confirmation needed from them. She then told me to apply for something completely different on-line. I knew that this was not what I needed and she told me that she agreed, "but the quickest way of getting what I wanted was to apply for this and then when my application was rejected, I would be automatically sent the letter of confirmation I needed"!!

- 'phoned physio at 09.00 this morning for an appointment. Answerphone message - 3 hours later still not heard anything.

- 'phoned two friends to have a moan about this and they were both out so hence this rant!!

Well I apologise for my belated return to the CBB, and for my first stop being the whinge thread... But I have time for the CBB because I am signed off work because my back has decided to fall apart. Hope everyone else's problems are being resolved

Oh dear, hope your back gets better soon.

I go away for one weekend - two little days, and it was a weekend away with my mum for Mothering Sunday weekend - and put on 3lbs. I've had counsellors telling me in the past not to think of this as punishment for daring to enjoy myself for a couple of days, but that's how it feels: that I'm not allowed to do anything nice without being punished for it. Very downhearted this morning :( .

(Sorry for whinge - just so fed up. It was two days.)

Alison, think of it as giving your mother a nice time. She would have hated it if you had spent the two days calculating every single calorie that you consumed.

So consume a few fewer calories for the next fortnight, and you'll be back to your usual self, perhaps even have lost a few pounds more.

Hope you're okay Alison.

So I've been to see my GP. He has signed me off again (but for my shoulder rather than my back which was what the previous sign-off was for. This will doubtless confuse my employer). He also says I need a steroid injection in my shoulder because he now thinks the problem is tendinitis rather than pulled muscles.

Hugs to everyone who needs them! Exile, I have to recommend the rest in those circumstances! I hope it's going ok.

I had a slightly puzzling phone consultation with my GP. She's said she can't sign a document for me to travel for work because she can't ascertain that the country concerned will "have the necessary specialists for you to see them whenever you need to." With all due respect, even here, I can't do that and all bar one consultant has discharged me with a diagnosis and medication as the only follow-up (and the outstanding one will in June). She also told me I would be removed from all NHS systems after 3 months if abroad (although I would continue to be a resident here). I certainly don't want to travel if not fit, but I do feel it's manageable and, if she remains of that opinion, that means I won't be able to travel long-term :(

Have the rules changed on qualifying for NHS treatment, whilst living abroad? I lived in Spain for 11 years, but I remained registered with my UK doctor and I had no problem getting appointments, prescriptions, etc. I would have stayed with the same dentist as well, but she retired a couple of years after I left, so I had to find another one.

Admittedly, it's 11 years in July since I returned to the UK to live, so it's possible that the rules have changed in that time, especially given the current pressures on the NHS.

I suspect you shouldn't have been able to do that even then Cal. I have spent the past 18 years in the Czech Republic, six months at a time. As a pensioner I can be out of the UK for six months, but no longer, without losing my right to NHS treatment.

Non-pensioners are only allowed 3 months. This is despite being UK tax resident, drawing a UK pension, and having my permanent abode in the UK. I have always been very careful to keep within those limits though until fairly recently I am not at all sure there was any way that they were checking, other than asking me every so often.

What always annoyed me was that they would not commit themselves on whether you counted within a tax year or a calendar year.

As far as I remember, these rules have been in existence since I started to live over there, so for at least 18 years, if not more.

You were probably quite lucky!

Cestina, thanks for that! My situation may be a bit different in that it's literally travel for work, so I suspect the doctor is not quite understanding that, but I could be wrong! I'm trying a consultant next week re getting permission at least. Otherwise, we'll see!

It may well be different if you are being sent by a UK employer and I suspect that your GP will have no clue about the intricacies of the situation. This is from the NHS website:
"If you are a worker posted by a UK company to an EEA country or Switzerland, you may be entitled to health cover funded by the UK in the country you are posted to. Contact HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for more details:
National Insurance Contributions and Employer Office
HM Revenue and Customs
BX9 1AN
United Kingdom
Telephone: 0300 200 3506
Outside UK: +44 191 203 7010
Opening times: 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday – closed weekends and bank holidays

It reads to me as if the time limits may not apply at all if you fit that category so well worth checking it out further.
