Absolutely this. Good luck and I'm sorry the school hasn't been supportive.

I've just got back from the doctor. I'm off work for 2 weeks which takes me up to the start of half term. I'm going back to see him during half term and he's said we'll then take about whether I feel ready to find back.

He was really nice about it, even though I just cried all the way through. He said that even if I go back to work after half term he wants to see me every 4 weeks or so to make sure that I'm coping and to look at longer term options like counselling.

I don't quite know how I feel at the moment. It feels weird to be at home now.

I'm so glad that the doctor was so supportive. They are usually very good. Also, hopefully work will have to sit up and take notice now that a medical professional has confirmed that there is an issue.

And, yes, it's rather weird being at home when you're used to being at work … especially as, when you're off ill, you don't feel up to spring cleaning or redecorating or all the other things that you wish you had time for when you're stuck at work and feeling well. Hopefully you've got some books to read or films to watch or something else that you can enjoy doing.

Thanks for the update, sunshine_daisy, and thank goodness for a doctor with some common sense and listening ability. Meanwhile, please keep talking to us about it if you need to, or even just keep talking about other things to us if it helps.

It seems to me that the medical profession has had to become much better at dealing with stress-related illness, simply because there is so much of it, including within its own ranks...

But it always galls me that it is you who needs counselling possibly when if the situation had never arisen or could have been resolved you would not be stressed in the first place.

^ Agreed; it's pretty crap.

I'm really glad the doctor was helpful and supportive though. I hope you find the time off helpful.

I'm glad your doctor is being supportive, hopefully the time off will help you out and convince your employer to take the situation more seriously.

Being off sick is a bit weird - at least in the absence of Matey to make you go to bed and stay there. Personally, after a few days of lying on the floor to try and ease my knackered back, I decided the floor was too vile to not hoover; should there be a repeat occurrence the floor is staying dirty!
Definitely don't try and do too much, certainly not that's work related.

I'm also very pleased that your doctor was supportive sunshine_daisy. I hope you are able to take this time to relax and cherish yourself.

Huzza for a sensible doctor. Don't worry if you weep all the time for a bit, it's one way of getting the tension out of yourself though it can be somewhat disconcerting. You need time to heal - the stress didn't all build in a short time and it will take time to "come down" from it.

And as Noreen says, keep talking to us if it helps.

I've only just read your saga, sunshine_daisy, having not been on here for a while, and am horrified, as a teacher myself, at what is going on in schools. Yours is not the first such tale I've heard recently. It's enough to put you off the job for life. I was even more horrified when I read how unsupportive your deputy was, given it's his job to look after his staff. But at least your courage was repaid by your wonderful GP, so listen to him, relax and take time to come to terms with this. And don't rush back as soon as you start to feel more yourself! They'll cope!

just to get back to my story witht he kittens for a moment, I am happy (and very relieved) to report that the third kitten is alive and healthy, and going back to his owner tonight!

He finished his antibiotics, and though he seemed perfectly healthy, he kept on having a runny nose and sneezing a lot, and I couldn't think what was wrong. Then I noticed that he was scrtching and licking himself a lot more than I would expect, and when we had a few warm days, it got even worse. I knew he didn't have fleas, but I checked him again to be sure. Then it hit me - he probably has allergies! I went out and brought him a bag of hypo-allergenic cat food, and withing two days he had stopped licking and scratching (at least, not more than any cat). He is still a bit snuffly, but that has improved a great deal.Unfotunately, the food also appears to be hypo-flavoured (eg tasteless), and he complains occasionally, but is getting used to it. I will advise my friend to take him to the vet for a proper assessment when she gets home.

She knows about the other two, and is very sorry, but doesn't blame me in the least. She knew they were very ill to start with, and is just grateful that I did what I could to help look after them. I didn't tell her how soon they died after they had come to me - the story I gave her was more spread out. I think that the stress of the journey and the new environemt may have been a factor, and since she had no choice about travelling (her father was very ill in America), I don't want to make her feel guilty about that side of it.

I'll actually miss the kitten, who has become very affectionate, but I'm relieved to be able to hand at least one of them back to her, and my cats will be glad to have the house to themselves again.

Good news Miriam about kitten no. 3. Sure you will miss him - these animals worm their way into the heart very quickly!

Sunshine_Daisy - echo what everyone else has said. Thank goodness your doctor is understanding - take your time about getting strong again. Hugs.

The sun is out.

The forecast is for the sun to be out on Monday as well.

But for it to rain all day Saturday, and all day Sunday.

Why does this happen?! It's so frustrating!

The sun is out here, on the western edge of east Anglia. It's such a surprise as we've been suffering from our usual blanket of grey cloud.

The day now has some colour, not just monochrome everywhere.

Hope everyone manages to have a reasonable weekend. Glad about the kitten, Miriam, and also glad that Sunshine_Daisy is getting appropriate help from her doctor.

It's good to hear about the kitten, Miriam. Good thought about the allergies!

1 degree here in my village, and spitting sleet from a sky as grey and dead as anything EBD ever came up with.

I don't think I've felt warm all year!

We've had sun this morning, but when I went out to check the towels, it was to find a short hailstorm.

So the nearly-dry towels are now indoors.

I managed to get a walk in today between showers. There was a right blizzard just before I went out. Blue skies now!
