I should add that I did need a bit of lasering later to get rid of some of the floaters that were getting in the way of my vision, which was a very simple half-hour appointment - I wish someone had warned me how noisy it was though!

I dropped into my neighbourhood opticians yesterday evening. There appears to be a mistake on the hospital's (major, specialist, teaching), assessment in the sight of my dominant eye. I though if the vision had changed by two diopters I would have noticed...

Also decent explanation from sensible optometrist who says do eye 1 to make distance vision similar in both as many of my "problems" are caused by the difference in vision.

It looks as though I'll be able to read with OTC (without fine detail) after surgery before new prescription.

And probably, given the slow change, eye 2 can wait for surgery.

Altogether rather betterMercifully the Sp3 was so pregnant that I think she'll be on maternity leave when surgery takes place.

I had one eye done about 2 years ago - not the dominant eye, but the other which I was hardly using as apart from the cataract it's a lazy eye. Before this I wore 2 contact lenses - now I don't wear one in the one I had surgery on. Now with 1 contact lens my eyes are both OK for distance vision, and I have reading glasses. The big plus is I can get up in the morning and see well enough with the "new" one not to need to put on glasses as I used to do.

I am on my way to the agm of an organisation I'm involved with. I've just realised that the agm booklet contains my report from last year, not the one I wrote for this year. Oh well, at least when I report to the age I won't just be reading out what is in the booklet.

That sounds like me. The eye they are proposing to do (non-dominant) is lazy and I have the remains of a squint with some double vision (which may get worse or better or stay the same). I'll certainly need glasses for reading but should be OK for distance as long as I don't have to read anything. I'm astigmatic so will still need a correction for "fine" distance - is it a wall or railings sort of thing. The dominant eye will need doing at sometime but can wait, I think. How did you manage the time between surgery and new glasses? For things like cooking etc?

Think it was several weeks before I could have new reading glasses but since it as only one eye that had changed I could get by with the old ones.

Reading at present is +4 and +7.5. It's the 7.5 which they'll fix - taking it down to the +3.75/4 (refraction will be plano) like the other. I think with over-the-counters of 3.75/4 I'll be able to manage as long as no fine detail (I've astigmatic correction and a prism in my current reading glasses) or heavy duty reading is necessary. And what I'll do about intermediate distances I'm not sure (besides cope that is). This is clearly not be the point to tell the hospital that I live on my own.

I have been trying to get through to our doctors' surgery for over an hour, and just keep getting the engaged tone. Luckily it's not an emergency, but . OK, maybe it isn't the best of days to ring, because some people go into panic mode when they know the surgery's about to be closed for 4 days, but it's still ridiculous. Oh, to have the doctors at the San at your beck and call every time somebody sneezes!

That would be nice. I wanted a routine appointment with my regular GP - 3 weeks wait for a phone appointment or 5 weeks for face to face.

Mind you they are very good in emergencies.

I got through eventually. I apparently have to have a phone appointment, which can only be done during working hours and cannot be done during dinner time, so I have to discuss my medical affairs in front of my colleagues. It's actually only about vaccinations, so it's hardly something confidential, but it's hard work! I appreciate that it's not their fault - it's a densely-populated area - but even so.

My surgery does that too, but they are more understanding about timings. Which is just as well as I don't have a phone signal at work

I need to whinge...

Been practising Easter music for ages at church. We are a small group of singers.
We just managed to absolutely massacre our Good Friday service. Even to the point of stopping halfway through one piece of music.

I wish Mr Denny had taken over and made us start again. I think it would have been less embarrassing.

Yes, that is embarrassing, ronaele, though at least everybody's intentions were good - but stopping halfway through is such a strange thing to happen. What do you think caused it?

Rehearsing without organ, then singing with organ on the day!

We kept missing the starting note, we think something the organist was playing just meant we couldn't find it.

Also the main problem was that our good singer lost her voice after Maundy Thursday service, she leads us and holds us together, the rest of us are have-a-go heroes!
