So sorry Audrey - pets get a hold of your heart and it’s so hard to let go.

Best laid plans....was happily getting ready for visit of son and family on Saturday, meeting with builder and architect planned for yesterday at 9 to finalise building plans in my Czech house for daughter's move next year when I realised that nagging pain in left shoulder, back and arm from day before was still around.

Having recently read many articles about female pending heart attack symptoms being different from male ones and including all of the above I decided discretion was the better part of valour and called ambulance.

Three parameds plus a doctor were on the doorstep pleasingly fast and upshot was I was bluelighted - great excitement in village - to my nice little local hospital where I spent day being tested. Blood revealed raised levels of something indicating all is not quite as it should be. I am therefore now up and dressed and waiting for transport to cardio unit in Ceske Budjeovice for deeper tests. And hopefully back to small hospital tomorrow as much closer for family to visit.

Was so busy yesterday trying to reassure family in UK and arrange alternative transport for Adam & Co from airport I didn't have time to worry till I woke at 3am....

Now to brace myself for being driven by Czech driver round our bendy hilly roads whilst lying flat if I can't persuade them to let me sit up. A guaranteed heart attack in the making!

Further bulletin later I hope...

Oh my goodness - just what you didn't need, cestina - crossing paws for you and sending soothing vibes, and thanks for the update. So glad you got it checked out, though.

Oh goodness! Definitely a good thing you call the ambulance. Hope the 'deeper' tests are carried out as speedily as everything else has been so far, and that any needed treatment will sort things out.

I am getting excellent care and now have two stents in my heart.

tomorrow I go back to the nice small local hospital from this very impressive cardio unit and then hopefully on Sunday or Monday I can go home so I should get a couple of days with the family at least.

Thanks for all the good wishes

So pleased it's sorted. P has a stent after an MI 13 years ago, and it really sorted him out. Takes a while to build up strength and stamina again, though. Take things gently.

What a good thing you recognised the signs and did something about it!

Delighted to know the problem is sorted, Cestina, and so quickly, too. Hope your recovery is uneventful and it won't be too long before you're back up to strength, but please don't get impatient with yourself if getting there takes longer than you would like. Sending positive vibes in your direction.

As much as anything it was this article and particularly the below the line comments that led to my recognizing the signs. I recommend it to everyone!

Funnily enough there's a below the !ine comment from me thanking the Guardian and btl commentators for the article and saying it might save some lives. Little did I know!

Thanks for the link - duly read. I did know about this sort of heart attack, but it's always good to have a refresh of the information, especially as heart problems run in my father's family (and many other families, of course). So pleased that you got such prompt treatment.
