Glad to gear they sorted you out, cestina. You were indeed lucky you'd read that article! I was pretty close to a heart attack without realising it years ago, but sudden chest pain climbing two flights of stairs alerted me and the heart people - and I had a stent put in the main artery to the heart, which was apparently completely blocked. They later showed me a photo from the angiogram, and you can see the artery is flat as a pancake for just over an inch. Scary!

Hope the convalescence goes well.

Thanks Audrey, am on last leg of journey home. Ferry docks at Harwich in an hour or so and then a 1.5hour drive, all being well. Sadly am bearing beastly bronchitis with me. Heart seems ok though :)

My electricty company recently put up its rates. As we'd had plenty of warning, I took a meter reading they day before which i sent to the company.

When I got my next (estimated) bill the reading had been ignored so I wrote to complain.

I've had a reply which I had to read twice to check that my first impression (that it was an untter load of drivel) was correct.

Far from simply apologising and correcting the bill, they have invented a problem I don't have, solved with a solution that does not work and made factual errors that make it clear they didn't even bother to look at my account. And they haven't corrected the bill.

Gas and electricity companies are a nightmare. I had a lot of similar problems a few years ago. Every time I rang up, I was told that no-one at the call centre could help me because accounts were dealt with in "the back office". OK, could I speak to someone in "the back office", then? No. Staff in the back office were "not customer facing" - i.e. they would not speak to customers. The people in the call centre couldn't do anything as they didn't have access to the relevant part of the system. Gah!

It's not just the gas / electricity companies - this awful farcical version of customer care is becoming distressingly common, often allied with an assumption that they know what you want better than you do yourself (yes, high street banks, I'm looking at you). Damage limitation, which I was always taught is crucial, is not only unknown to them, but as Victoria says, they make things worse.

I agree that the energy supply companies can be particularly bad, though - we gave up on British Gas years ago because they were apparently unable to keep a routine appointment to service the boiler. Three times one of us took time off work (and I know you've had experience of this too, Alison) to keep the appointment, only for them to not show up, and not even contact us to offer an explanation.

I gave up on British Gas after I'd spent a YEAR trying to convince them that I owed them money rather them owing me several hundred pounds.

These days, i don't bother to try and sort out problems if they are in my favour. I don't like it as it doesn't feel honest and it makes me uncomfortable but I just can't face the hassle.

Out Patient appointment 22nd October = new inhaler prescribed. Almost out of capsules - cant get a repeat until GP receives letter. No sign of letter anywhere.

On instruction from practice nurse who seems to know which way is up, ring the clinic, "Sorry, we're a bit behind. No we cant email a letter today - consultant is out."
Hopefully they'll do it tomorrow.

And no amount of money poured in will improve this - not the first time local, nationally renowned teaching hospital has messed up with letters...

Oh dear. Personally I am frustrated because the medication I normally take is no longer available locally (there's a potential cancer risk and a lot of pharmacies have stopped stocking it even though the link is unproven and the medication hasn't been officially withdrawn). My GP has been very helpful but there just isn't a good substitute

I do sympathise over the specialist/GP/medicine problem. I saw my neurologist at the end of last month and while there is no new damage to my brain there has sadly been no further healing and so now we're looking at trying to control my pain/fatigue with medication tweaks. As the back ground pain has been worse recently, hence the appointment this is both good news and frustrating.


Of course this medication review has to be done through my GP, and I can't even book an appointment with the surgery until they get the letter... as the meds may really mess with me I really wanted to get this sorted and hopefully stabilised before I next see my family at Christmas.
I love that the NHS is free and my care has been amazing but sometimes I feel a little frustrated.

Here's hoping other people's medication reviews come good soon too.

Oh no :( . Hope you can get another appointment soon. Things always wait until just after you've had a check-up (or they've had a check-up, if it's a car or a household appliance) to break. Hope it's not too sore.

Whose idea of customer service is making you press a load of buttons, then saying "Our lines are exceptionally busy at the moment, so we cannot take your call. Please note that you have still been charged for the call" :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ?

The Brownies had a letter from the Nationwide Building Society to say that they are closing the Treasurers Trust accounts from next year. The Brownies have had the account for over 20 years. It was in use when I took over the accounts. The service from my local branch was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Now I will have to look for an alternative.

On a happier note, another Building Society have just sent me an email wishing me Happy Birthday!

I'm saddened and slightly surprised at Nationwide, Jenefer - I've had an account with them for decades and thought they were a bit better than that - they're still a building society rather than a bank, for one thing. But one gets these mad decisions out of the financial sector from time to time, it seems. I'd had a Halifax account, also for decades, when I got a letter from them demanding that I put "a substantial amount of money" with them or close the account - I don't do blackmail, so closed it. The really nice counter staff at my nearest branch (not the one the account was with, incidentally) asked why and were quite shocked to hear the reason.

Hope you can find a better deal from a more friendly bank or building society for the Brownies!

Arthur, my beloved cat, died in his sleep early on Saturday morning. It wasn't entirely unexpected as he was getting old but I miss him so much ❤️❤️
