So sorry, Just Jenn.

I am having problems with my health, and I've just had a scan which shows that there is no cancer in my torso, so more investigations needed.

I am appalled by something I've just read. Apparently, when a new mother posted on-line what she and her Husband planned to call their new baby, family members objected and insisted on having a change of name.

What business is it of anyone else to decide what a couple's name for their child should be?

What amazed me was that they wanted to call the child Peter. What's wrong with that for a name.

I chose my sons' names. I registered Donald's birth.

I carried them for nine months, and I was the one who had two very difficult births, so no-one else was going to have a single thing to say about the names.

Sorry to hear about the health problems, Jennie. Hope they can investigate quickly. I rather like the name Peter...

That is strange. I could just about understand it if they'd wanted to call the child something weird and wonderful and people were worried that he'd be made fun of at school, but what on earth's wrong with Peter?!

A friend of mine has sprained her ankle - how GO-ish is that? She (is 30 years older than me, and) has been given a Zimmer frame to use until it heals. Apparently the cost of carrying out in-depth Health And Safety Checks on a Zimmer frame which someone has been using is so high that it's deemed not worth it, so she has been told that they can't take it back and she can keep it ... even though she'll hopefully only need it for a couple of weeks. She doesn't want to keep it, because it'll be cluttering the house up, but they don't want it back.

There are articles in the local press every day about people having to wait for treatment because the health service is so short of money. Am I missing something here :banghead: ? Who makes these rules? It must be very frustrating for NHS staff.

So sorry JustJen and sending hugs to you and Jennie.

Alison - we experienced something very similar after my mother-in-law died - zimmer frame, crutches, special mattress and various other aids provided by NHS and only used for a couple of months but they wouldn't take them back.

I think it's all to do with Health & Safety and all the regulations nowadays. Thing is people can be quite hurt if they try and take things back and they are refused.

The people doing the refusing can also be a bit officious and tactless and all too pleased to go along with the refusing and telling the exact reasons why (and I speak from personal experience here!)

It just seems so wasteful. Do they think she's going to use it for Wacky Races or something? I don't suppose zimmer frames and walking sticks cost that much, but multiply the cost by the number that must be used every year and that's a lot of money that could go on other things :( .
