EastEnders has just brought in a storyline in which (offscreen) a child is severely scalded when his older brother lifts up a kettle and accidentally spills hot water over him. Being EastEnders, it transpires that this happened because Kat Slater, who was supposed to be supervising them, had left them alone because she was in bed with her lover, whilst her husband (who has now got her cousin pregnant) was out, which definitely isn't very Chalet School, but I think it's the first time I've come across a child-injures-sibling-with-boiling-water storyline anywhere else. Maybe the scriptwriter's an EBD fan?

My uncle pulled a kettle of boiling water over himself when he was about three. He lived on a Scottish island in the Hebrides and medical help was a long time coming. His left arm remained withered all his life. There was some discussion of whether his older brothers were in any way to blame, he said they had told him to get water for something, but they both denied always that they had meant the kettle - they said they thought he would go to the pump outside.
