To make a quote:
Put quoted text here.
To make a quote with the person's name:
Put quoted text here.
To make some text in italics:

Put text here.

To make some text bold:

Put text here.

To make some text underlined:

Put text here.

To make a link:

Put text here.

To make text small:

Put text here.

To make text large:

Put text here.

Do not miss out any part of the brackets or what is within the brackets or it will not work.

To make this easier, there are quick link buttons on the entry page itself. They look like this:
Image

To use these, highlight the relevant text and click the relevant button.
The B button makes text bold, the i button makes text italic, the u button makes text underlined, the Quote button inserts that text into a quote, the URL button makes a URL (you will need to insert the =http:// part yourself.)

If you hover over the buttons, it will tell you in the tip box how to do all the codes and what they're for, in case you forget.

Common problems using these buttons:
The code is not around the text you wanted.
Solution: You didn't highlight the text correctly. Make sure the correct text was highlighted, that you didn't de-highlight as you were moving the mouse and that you didn't click anywhere except exactly on the code button.

Nothing happened.
Solution: You probably clicked beside the button but not on it exactly. I'm always doing this. Just highlight again and try again.

The code is there twice.
Solution: Single click. Do not double-click.

The code didn't work and it's showing up with a bracket or something else missing.
Solution: You deleted a part of it. Add in whatever you deleted or delete it all and start again.

Common reasons for problems with code in general:
- You forgot the closing part of the code.
- You deleted a part of the code.
Solutions: Edit and try again. It needs to be very exact but it is not difficult if you are careful.

If your link doesn't work, it probably means that you forgot the http:// part or that you mistyped the link. Some links with certain characters (other than letters and numbers) may not work. Ask a mod for help with these.

To quote someone else's post automatically:

Click quote in the bottom left of their post.

If you want to only quote a portion of their post, delete the extraneous text, being careful not to delete any portion of the code.

You can also quote more than one person's code in one post. Just highlight person 1's code, click 'Quote', add what you have to say, then click the quote botton next to the next post you want to quote and it will be added into the body of the message. Edit and comment as usual etc.

I actually didn't know that, thanks Katherine!

I only worked it out recently. I presumed you would lose everything if you clicked a second quote button.

If I might comment here too - I make extensive use of the 'preview' button. That shows you if you've made a blooper, or missed something, and you can then alter in the editing bit below to make sure everything is exactly as you want it to be before you actually press 'submit'.
