Not sure where this belongs - it's about Austria, so not entirely off topic.

There's a story in today's Metro (free newspaper for commuters) about a man from Bolton who was an ancestor of the von Trapps. His son married the daughter of a Viennese aristocrat - relatives of the von Eschenaus, perhaps?

Very likely :) - I think I'm right in saying that the Austrian-Hungarian aristocracy prided themselves on coming of titled families in all parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great grandparents. As this reduces the number of prospective spouses somewhat, they were probably all related.

I did some reading up on the "real" von Trapps a few years ago when I read Maria's autobiography, and I remember being very excited when I found out they (well, the first Mrs Von Trapp) had ancestors from Bolton (10 miles up the road from here) . In fact, I think I looked up their ancestry because Whitehead's such a Lancastrian name and definitely not what I'd expected Georg's first wife's maiden name to've been  .
