We went to Pertisau in 2006 ish, at least here that is normal, whereas in 'real life' people think you're weird driving a thousand miles to a place where some books were written!

The Chalet which appears on the front cover of the Armada paperbacks. Can you imagine me with a book, walking back and forth to get the camera angle just right? :)

Hotel Prinz Karl (I think, that's from memory)

Hotel Alpenhof, probably the building described as the school in the books, I look at the balconies and can just imagine the 'plumeaux' being aired!

A photo-of-a-photo could be from the 1930's as late as 1950's, but probably much as EBD would have seen it. The Alpenhof is to the right with the trees around, Hotel Post behind it near the lake, Hotel Prinz Karl further along the lakeside to the left. (I think!)

A mixture of photo and painting. The origin is unknown but the steamer is much too big and painted on. The Alpenhof has small trees around, which presumably are the huge once which now surround it!

Another period painting showing the Hotel Post and Hotel Stefanie:

Thanks. And no, you aren't weird - we used to drive over for the afternoon when we were at a skating camp in Bad Reichenhall (and will again if we go to the camp which is now held in Berchtesgaden), which meant not using motorways so we didn't have to buy a vignette!
