It is possible to hire a pair of guides (who look like Herr Mensch and Herr Marani, in full regalia, no kidding.) to take you up the Mondscheinspitze (Tiernjoch) - although I imagine to do so requires German and I've no idea *where* you go to do this.

They seem to have revamped the achensee webiste and have details of guided hikes here:

When we tried to go to Geisalm - abortively, as the path had been washed away 3/4 of the way along so we sadly turned round and came back - we had decided that we would actually walk on to Achenkirch, which is about the same distance, and then get a bus back to Pertisau. I should have liked to have done that, but it was not to be....

I'll be in at the Achensee from late on the 13th-18th June, so if anyone's around...

Absolutely stoked to be heading off on my fantasy European trip tomorrow from Aus- 6 weeks of glorious sights and I may even make it to Tenby just to keep up the CS theme :D :D

HOw lovely Redbankski. Enjoy - I may be the teeniest, tiniest bit jealous as the only Chalet School location I've been to is Tenby - but one day.... :D

Jools, coming from Australia, I'm making sure I see as much as possible as I don't know when I'll be back...

But yes every time someone posts a description of their CS related trips, I just drool & feel rather envious!

Yesterday I drove through both the Wye & Golden Valleys. What an unbelievably beautiful area with its leafiness and narrow lanes. Great location for long CS walks.

Currently in Cardiff making my plans for the day and thrilled to have been to Michaelchurch, Vowchurch & Peterchurch-even had a drink at the lovely little Bridge Inn near Michaelchurch. Not a bad day methinks.

Sounds as if you're having a truly memorable time, redbanksia. Hope you're taking photos :D

Noreen, yes, I have managed to sneak in the odd shot here and there...
So funny, no one else gives two hoots about tiny villages in the Golden Valley, but in this select community of ours, we 'get' it. I love that!

Packing for my third Tyrol visit, flying on Monday for a week. Lots of great info on here and on Nell's blog, thanks. Last month it was the Abbey, this month it's the Chalet School - utter bliss!

If the weather is as nice as the Tyrol has been this week, then it should be glorious. :D

Sadly though it was too hot to feel like managing the bus, train, bus transfer to get to the Achensee from Soll, where I was staying.

I don't know about the Achensee but you can still see everywhere I went this week, where heavy rains a few weeks ago left mudslides and torrents down mountain streams.

But having landed back in the UK today a) everywhere looks really flat! and b) the countryside in Austria is far greener.

I'm envious, I want to go back rather than going to work again on Monday! :bawling:
