I'm a bit dubious about this one. The last prequel was a nice adventure story but little to do with the CS - you could have happily substituted any other names and it would have made no difference to the story.
This looks similar - a school story using some familiar names but otherwise little connection

I agree.

There's a bit more info about it in the latest FOCS magazine. It's about Rosalie and Mary's last term at Taverton High, and various goings-on involving a Bad Girl who needs reforming. I like Rosalie and have always thought she deserved her own book, but I'm surprised GGBP have gone for something which is about another school. If they're going to start publishing books about CS girls at their previous schools, maybe we could have Ted Grantley's bareback riding display, or Joan and Ros at Meadowfield Secondary Modern, or Joyce Linton leading other girls astray at her school in London :D .

I'm uncomfortable about the whole thing.

This seems dangerously close to the "write a book, seed it with a few familiar names, sell it to an established fan base" attitude of a lot of prequel/sequel publishers. Sometimes it's justified by the term "Extended Universe" but they are all attempts to milk money from copyrights.

I have so far bought all of GGB’s fill-ins/prequels/sequels but have to agree that this one does not look attractive and I won’t be buying it. Rosalie does deserve her own book but I would prefer to see it as a sequel in which she gets married and finally leaves the CS

On page 6 of the catalogue there is hint that "Katherine (Briuce) is working on another fill-in book".
Can you tell us more at this stage, KB? Looking forward to it whatever it is - as long as it isn't another prequel!

Funny - I far prefer the prequels. Or the ones set out of school. The in-school ones, although I enjoy most of them, don't quite work for me.

I promise it's not a prequel. :D

Is it a fill in of a missing term or is it an existing term from another perspective, KB? I promise this is my only question :D

I'd love to read another prequel if it was about the Bettanys' first holiday in Tyrol, as other people have said.

We'd all love to know more but know doubt she has been sworn to secrecy.

Yes, I agree. That's the only prequel I'd still buy, I think.
Please can someone report on the latest one - perhaps I might change my mind . . .

Happily, when it arrives. No sign of it yet though my daughter assures me it is bought and paid for!

Surely it's more fun to guess (and no, I'm saying nothing definite - it's definitely more fun for me to watch you guessing! ). Still, I can give you a few clues:

I will be visiting the location where the book is set later in the year - and not for the first time
The central character is a very well-known and much beloved person
The book is set during a similar period I have written about before
I am incorporating at least one event described in a much later book

So it's neither a prequel nor a sequel - and the guessing can begin now! (Wishful thinking is fine, too, in case it prompts any new ideas...)

Okay, I’ll just have to be patient then, it’ll be worth it! 8)

On my shelf I have two Tirol and one Armishire books by you. So which one? Tirol, perhaps.

Has she already got her name in a title or had a book named after her? (eg Jo, Eustacia, Lavender, Head Girl etc?) Probably not.

Has this event been described in one of the earlier books or is it an "off-scene" one only referred to retrospectively? I suspect the latter.

It's hard to visit a fictional place like Armishire so does it not have to be the Tirol? (Hoping very much that it is - the Armishire books are my least favourite in the series)

Very true; Armishire may be fictional but the area it is based on isn't.
I think I'd prefer Tirol too.
Armishire is not my least favourite although it is a bit gloomy because of WW2. Do you really prefer the later Swiss books, Cestina?

Well yes and no. I like the early ones in Switzerland because I am always inclined to favour things set abroad but as far as plotting and characters are concerned I agree that the Armishire ones are superior.

But it is from Switzerland that they visit the Tyrol again and I like that too. I very rarely reread the last half a dozen books that EBD wrote though.

Hmm you've got me thinking KB - could it be set in between "New" and "Exile", with Hilary as the central character? And the event mentioned in a much later book being Elisaveta's last visit to the Tirol prior to getting married?
