I'm going to live in hope it's set in Tyrol and in the term after her last book and centered on Bette, in her time as a Head Girl. I know another fill in has covered that term, but it focused more on another school than the Chalet School. I've always wanted to read a book about Bette.

Demanding souls, aren't you? *lol*

Has she already got her name in a title or had a book named after her? (eg Jo, Eustacia, Lavender, Head Girl etc?) Probably not.

I am incorporating at least one event described in a much later book
Has this event been described in one of the earlier books or is it an "off-scene" one only referred to retrospectively? I suspect the latter.

Perhaps.
Probably not.
One of the two.

One of those, yes.

Any more suggestions?

I'm guessing Elisaveta.

We know she attends the CS for two terms but only one is described. There are a number of things about her that are mentioned in later books but not covered either in canon or in fill-in. She tends to be a popular character with the Board and she was at the CS in the Tyrol years.

Plus Katherine's already written around the same period in "Juniors".

I agree. However if I've interpreted the reply to one of my questions correctly, it probably isn't her. Although she doesn't actually have her name in the title, her "job"/description is in a title.

Many thanks for your answers, KB, but the only conclusion that I have drawn is that it is probably set in the Tirol years. Somewhere I have a list of missing terms. If I can find it, I'll see if I can work anything further out and will be back with another guess.

Apologies for spreeing.
I found the following http://the-cbb.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=10370
Quote:
Year 7
Jo Returns to the CS
Trouble for the Chalet School

Marie von Eschenau and Baron Eugen von und zu Wertheimer get married over Christmas and Joey, Frieda, Simone, Paula, Irma and the Robin are the bridesmaids. Mlle LePâttre is still very ill, although the girls think that she is recovering. Miss Annersley is acting Head Mistress and has a troubled start. Louise Redfield and the prefects have more difficulties with middles, and the School is thoroughly unsettled. Jo writes her second book up on the Sonnalpe, and the girls hate not seeing her and think she hasn’t time for them. First inklings arrive that Miss Browne is giving up St Scholastika’s; a number of her pupils leave, not to be replaced. Ted Humphreys and Dr di Bersetti die in a climbing accident, leaving Robin an orphan and Bette a widow. The annual Sale of Work is held using local Tirolean “Myths and Legends” as the theme. Jem Russell agrees to buy St Scholastika’s from Miss Browne to use as a holiday home, after she sells her School to Madge.
The New CS (A United CS)

Not the term that Fiona would like to see (so would I) but Bette-related.

Hasn’t the above already been covered in KB’s Muller Twins?

I’m going for Hilary Burn as head girl which I think might also cover the period of Elisaveta’s wedding. :o

Correct.

And I have always been uncomfortable covering a term that another fill-in author has already covered, for what it's worth...

Im hoping its Hilary as Head Girl and Elisaveta visting the Sonnalpe for her honeymoon... with details like the opening of the hotel they will move to in Exile and Jack le Pelley being in the San... and more updates on the Lintons and reflecting on the trip to India.... would be loads of material!

Wonderful ideas but perhaps a bit too much to hope for? (or not?)

Yes possibly a lot :) but even if just passing references would help tie some ends together.

Actually just realised its not Elisaveta's honeymoon, she comes to the Sonnalpe to announce her engagement (bringing her fiance) and then Joey is her bridesmaid in Belsornia in the winter half term. Whoops...

No idea if this is the time period you are looking at KB though! :D

Other nice little touches if it were though, would be Robin getting the pleasant surprise of seeing a dedication to herself in Joeys second book (as mentioned in Goes to it)and I've always been confused about the whereabouts of Stacie and Biddy at this point, and how permanently the Lintons plan to stay at the Sonnalpe once Mrs Linton has passed away and the estate in England is sorted. Plus as others have said it would be great to see more of Bette and Robin.

This period between "New" and "Exile", even with the "Gillian" fill-in, has so many great opportunities to put some key events on stage! Perhaps worthy of more than one book :)

Would be great if it covered the missing part in the middle of Exile, Jo's wedding and their arrival in Guernsey. I've always wished there were more books about Guernsey, though of course can see why there aren't.

Aha Guernsey seems more likely then!
Nice clues from KB ... i know i was thrown off the scent by the hint about it being a period KB had written about before... i think we all assumed Tirol or Armishire.
But of course there was the short story in 2 Sams (Home is where the heart is) that covered a small part of Guernsey too....
So... this new fill in could be the Easter term between Exile and Goes to it... or the gap in Exile? Although I had a feeling there was already something being worked on for the year the school closed...
If its the missing term, then I wonder who the much loved central character could be... perhaps Corney or Polly...or Beth or Daisy....
All very intriguing ☺

Sorry for spreeing, but isn't it interesting how all those FB polls lately all seem to suggest that people want to read more about one specific group in the school's history...

Let's say that Margia Stevens and her friends have topped two recent popularity polls :D .

When do you hope your book will be published, KB? I have no idea about writing/publishing timeframes!

Certainly by the end of 2019, if not earlier.
