I am just trying to work out whether I can pass on Fete to Furrowed Middlebrow who I am meeting on Tuesday. Am I right in thinking that the GGBP version of Genius also contains Fete? Or am I misguided?

I can find nothing on line that confirms or denies this belief. But someone here will know!

I'm sure it does. GGBP books are the original text, so would be the same as the hardback. It was only Armada who decided to split it for some reason.

(edit - just checked my copy, and yes, it does include Fete)

IIRC, Fete contains a chapter specially written by EMBD for its split personality. It still wasn't enough to make me keep it!

Noreen recollects correctly.
Not sure if that's where the anomaly of Cecil being born twice comes in.

Mind you, re EBD-isms, I was reading a paper about Robbe-Grillet and Muriel Spark which was talking about deliberate contradictions in the novel, even within a few lines, as a device to show that there are different realities happening at the same time and no one version of the truth. So perhaps EBD was a practising post-modernist and we've just been missing the point all along :)

:?

Hmmmm. That is the sort of thing that just annoys me as a reader - naturally I wouldn't pick up on the clever meta angle and just get really frustrated thinking I had misread something.

Maybe it's the other way round - Muriel Spark was just prone to EBDisms but came up with a pretentious cover story!
