It was posted in some of the GO-related Facebook groups yesterday - thanks for posting it over here. I meant to, and forgot  . Nice to see the Chalet School being recognised somewhere unexpected!

Oh that's excellent. Thank you for posting it from someone who prefers to avoid Facebook like the plague.

I've read "A is for Activist" (and I can't recommend it) but am unfamiliar with "The Journey." Any thoughts?

That's lovely. It's only reading it as an adult you realise what an unusual take on the wartime theme EBD has, with her on-going inclusion of German speaking characters. And yet there must have been many others in the UK with similar views, who had spent time abroad and were grieving over friends and family caught up in the occupation.

There's a Joan Lingard book called The File on Fraulein Berg, in which three schoolgirls think that their German teacher (German as in nationality as well as subject taught) must be a spy, and then it turns out that she's a Jewish refugee. It's not a patch on Exile, but it's quite a good read.

I'm not on Face book, so am glad you posted it here, Jozanna. She's so right about Exile.

I also heard Val McDermid on the radio the other night re the CS, which I think was a repeat of a programme some of you heard ages ago. Even SLOC listened and laughed, but she made exactly the same point about Exile.
