Someone has posted a picture online of a blue plaque for Elinor Brent Dyer and said it’s 50 years today since she died, is that true?

Even if not, it looks like it was this year, thought it was pretty good legacy that it’s 50 years since she died, and nearly 100 years since her first book, and there’s still this many of us reading and loving her books and her world.

Well done Elinor!

That's correct, Beecharmer - EBD died on September 20th 1969.

Edited because I can't type

It is, yes - and, as you say, what a wonderful legacy she's left us. I like to think that she'd be delighted to know that her books are still being read and that there are groups devoted to them!

Long live Elinor Brent-Dyer and her books!

PS I have given this subject some thought in another context, and it seems to me that our author is one of the few who has been both a commercial success in her own lifetime, and achieved lasting fame after her death. A lot of people have to settle for one or the other!

Yes it's a remarkable achievement. Here's to the next 50 years of fandom

Guess Enid Blyton is another, in spite of bans/criticism at various times. Shops still have shelves of them, with jazzy covers and some updating of un-PC bits and names! She's another who has had sequels/fill-ins too

When I searched on "Redstone Cemetery famous graves" I clicked on the first Google response to find two memorials listed (for people for whom I have never heard). To find EBD you need to use the search facility. She is listed on Find-A-Grave under her name but not under the cemetery,

I find this bizarre as she seems to be the only occupant who is still widely known (and the staff know her as they get flowers for her grave on a regular basisi)

I am just back from the New Chalet Club AGM, which was timed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of EBD's death. Amongst the 'outings' of yesterday about 70 of us went to Redstone Cemetery and took part in a short service of commemoration and laying of a wreath. (We then went on to the Bluebell line for a steam train trip.)
Here is a link to Mrs Redboot's blog on the weekend which opens with a photo of the ceremony by the grave.
