Pleased to see that the ebooks are now available in both mobi and epub. I have just downloaded Chalet School in Exile in epub format without any problem at all.

Is it possible to convert MS Word docs to .mobi?

Yes, there is a free program available called Mobipocket Reader which will import Word docs and turn them into .mobi files. And you can then read them on your computer as well as adding them to your Kindle/other e-reader.

As I don't have Word on my machine, it didn't seem to want to know, so I had to turn the files into .pdf first, but that wasn't a problem and it then converted them quickly and, I think, rather well.

Thanks so much and sorry, I should have said I have now conquered this and lots of my work docs are on my Kindle which is great. I'm also going to jailbreak my Kindle to put my own pictures on the screensaver.

Slow? You can import several documents at a time and convert and send them to your kindle at the press of a single key. What do you use that is quicker?

This is a forum for kindle owners which may also be helpful to people thinking about publishing their books on kindle.

and for those who want to use their own screensavers there is this thread in the above forum.

I have found Mobipocket much quicker at converting documents, but I agree, later versions of Calibre are much faster. What I do like Calibre for is correcting the meta-data on the books (especially if I have converted them from a transcript). But I do wish the Kindle had better file handling - it is seriously pants compared to my old Cybook!

School at the Chalet is now available to download.

I've just downloaded it and I'm pleased with how good the photographs look. Though as they were mostly black and white to start with then that's not surprising!

I got a Kindle for Christmas and found no CS books.

Is it on amazon.co.uk you found them?

In Ireland we automatically have to register to amazon.com.

Thanks.

Why did GGBP stop doing ebooks? Bettany Press have their EBD books on Kindle on Amazon, the Trebizon books are on Kindle on Amazon, the entire Babysitters Club books and spin offs are on Kindle on Amazon. I would buy the Chalet books and EBDs other books on Kindle and I would still buy the physical copies that GGBP release.

Would there be much work for GGBP to produce Kindle editions? I seem to remember that the books they did release on Kindle were not available on Amazon. You had to buy them directly from GGBP and there were problems downloading them to kindles if I recall correctly. Something about converting the file.

I naively assumed that all you had to do was upload a Word transcript to the appropriate programme and it would then work as an e-publication, seeing as you can e-mail a Word or PDF document from your own computer to a Kindle and it seems to work, but I gather that there's actually a lot more to it than that!
