And Caroline German's new filler, Deira Joins the Chalet School has just been published. :D If you pre-ordered copies, they should be en route to you very shortly, according to the GGBP website. I'm looking forward to receiving my copy! :)

My author's copies of Deira arrived this morning and, if I do say so myself, they look very shiny....

Waiting with bated breath to find out what everyone thinks of it...

Mine arrived this morning. I was hoping to save it for my holiday in October, but somehow I don't think that's going to happen.

Yay, it has arrived! (If it had come yesterday, I wouldn't have started a new Bones book, but oh well...)

I've bought Deira for my mother for her birthday, and hers has arrived too. I shall be purloining it for myself the minute she finishes it!

Caroline, could you please explain the carbohydrate heating chemistry? I've run through every combination of pyrolysis and combustion I can think of and can't figure out how to get Bill's version of gases. I'm with Joey in expecting some carbon in there -- some CO2 since they weren't exactly working in a vacuum, and a fair amount of carbon monoxide plus methane from pyrolysis since the procedure sounded more like charring than burning (though technically the "flammable gases" could also include a mishmash of other hydrocarbons and their partial oxidation products as well as some hydrogen). Am I missing something horribly basic? *worries*

Otherwise, I'm really enjoying the book. It arrived just in time for the weekend. :D
