This brain witter came from a discussion about which of the Goodies might fit a chalet school character.

The suggestion was Bill Oddie for Kester Bellever, which I thought fitted quite well.

So who would you cast for particular characters and why?

Can a mod move this if it is in the wrong place please, I wasn't totally sure.

Hannah Gordon for Madge - just because she looks as I imagine Madge to look.

Honeysuckle Weeks as Mary-Lou, owing to her ability to play Annoying People quite well. (Alternatively, H.W. in Brisk mode, as Rosalie)

Maggie Smith as Bill. The woman who was Miss Jones in Rising Damp as Hilda (right voice, as much as anything else.)

I thought the other day that Maisie Smith (Tiffany in Eastenders) could play a young Margot. She has a cheeky naughtiness about her.

Ooh, not sure about Maggie Smith as Bill, though can see why you would say that. I just have an image of Miss Jean Brodie, which is not Bill's style at all.

I wondered about Helen Mirren as Bill ? Though she might be a bit serious for Bill. Or what about Stephanie Cole?

The girl who plays Luna in Harry Potter could be good for Verity Ann I think.

Pam wotsit (Rosemary and Thyme/Darling Buds of May) as Frau Mieders.

Emma Thompson as elder Joey - I think it's the shape of her face.

Paul Merton could camp up Plato splendidly :-)

Maggie Smith should be Matey. But that's mainly because someone has a drabble going where I can just hear MS's voice doing all of Matey's lines!

I know it's impossible as one of them's dead but I always thought Hinge and Bracket would make a brilliant Miss Annersley and Miss Wilson.

But Bill is now forever Stephanie Cole in my mind.

I actually could see Julie Andrews ( Of thoroughly Modern Millie instance of her character rather than Mary Poppins !) playing the young adult and then older Joey.

Charlotte Coleman would have been good as Corney or Evvy.

The lady who play Havers in Inspector Lynley would be quite good as Nancy Wilmot, somehow.

I've always thought of (young) Julie Andrews playing Joey as well :).

I think young Christina Ricci ( in Now and then character rather than Wednesday Adams!) could maybe do a good version of young Joey.

Younger Emma Watson could do a good Mary Lou maybe?? Not sure.
