That is a lot of spam.

Spammers often auto-search by finding keywords so perhaps you're inadvertently using too many of the keywords they like in your drabbles? A little like how we used to get all those spammers selling kitchens here because of the Kaffee und Kuchen forum name.

They also probably like the fact that your account is so active and that you get a lot of comments and respond to them.

Not sure what to suggest unfortunately

I've had a couple today. They're registering under ordinary names - James, Charles, Rebecca, etc - which makes them much harder to spot than when they register under a random jumble of letters. I haven't got any answers either!

How do spammers know?!? I've just opened my laptop for the first time since Friday and discovered they decided to celebrate my birthday yesterday by posting 19 spam messages on Vol 7 of ND!! :banghead: Plus sundry others elsewhere.

Normally I'd be able to delete them, but that means signing on, which we can't do right now.

I think they were just busy yesterday! I'd had no spam e-mails for several days and was hoping they'd decided to leave me alone, but I had 3 yesterday. None today, touch wood! Maybe they just like Saturdays  .

ETA - tempted fate there. Just had another one. Boo!

Is anyone else STILL being bothered by countless spam alerts from SDL? There seem to be three or four new posts on ND, in different volumes, every day... How do they manage to get on, while we can't? And, indeed, why bother when it's obvious nothing is happening on there at the moment?

And what about the current spam in several places here on the board, eg Rose Garden?

There's a note in School Noticeboard about the spam on here. The available Mods are deleting the spam as quickly as we can, but unfortunately there's no way of getting rid of it all until someone with the authority to ban the spammers has chance to do so.

I'm still getting the odd spam alert from the SDL. If it's a big problem, you can probably mark the e-mail address as spam so that the e-mails don't come into your inbox - presumably no genuine reviews are coming through at the moment because people can't log in. I assume spambots don't have logical thought processes , but they're very annoying!

The SDL is pretty broken I'm afraid. I'd advise you to turn off notifications for the time being.

As we can't log in, we can't actually do that, which is somewhat frustrating.

Well I'm afraid you're stuck with them then.

I'd suggest marking the e-mail address as spam, then they won't be delivered to your inbox. I'm only getting the odd one now - touch wood! - but, if you're getting a lot, that's probably the best option.

I've had 17 spam e-mails this morning! They all came within the space of a few minutes, and there've been none for 3/4 hour so hopefully that's the lot. Maybe time to mark the e-mail address as spam ...

I’m still reaping the rewards of being stupidly drabblous so many years ago, I have over 100 stories accross three IDs, from when I didn’t sleep, so I get masses of spam review emails a day, but obviously can’t log in to do anything about it.

Not complaining, the emails don’t bother me, I just delete them without looking now, but wanted to leave a standing offer here that I’m here if there was anything I could do to help mods, since by the number of drabbles there I’m probably going to be one of the first to get a new spambot hassle me, so if there was a way I can go and track and delete them and or their spam reviews quickly for anyone else that that spammer reviews on I’d happily do it, or anything else similar if it helps.

I made a similar offer to Mia a while ago, Beecharmer, suggesting we all delete the spam on our own drabbles, so that no one was stuck with the whole job.

I did see that, but I thought that was when people could log in, I can’t log in at all, and am guessing no one else can?

Doesn’t really matter on mine, none of them have been new reviews for a while, unless someone comes via the random story link, so I probably wouldn’t bother on my own unless SDL came back online. I just noticed a post about mods deleting, so wondered if there was a way of accessing still, and if so whether it would be helpful to be available if needed.

Probably not, but thought I’d at least offer. :-)
