Bonjour tous! I'm the only person who can admin the SDL and obviously I haven't done anything with it for a long time, so I am sorry about that! The software is a couple of versions behind, so I will try and get it updated and see if that helps the security issues. Unfortunately, the software isn't as well developed as, for example, the phpBB software that the CBB runs on, so it's harder to administrate. Also (as I'm sure people have gathered!) I'm afraid I don't have very much time to devote to it. However, I will try and tidy things up a bit.

Um, has my SDL account been deleted? Apparently it no longer exists. :?

It's possible, I'm afraid! I tried to make sure I only deleted definite spam, but I may have included a couple of real people! I'm afraid you will have to re-register. If you had posted fic or comments on others' fics, please send me a link so I can work out how to connect your new profile to your old activity.

Thank you for responding and doing some admin on SDL.
I was concerned in case SDL became unable to support the number of non people on the board and stopped working.

Congratulations on your promotion and I hope the new job is going well :D .

The SDL spam reviewers seem to have been extremely busy overnight :( . Unless they're just picking on me!

I've had one as well, I've reported it.

I've had a bunch too.

I suspect I have too - haven't been on to check, but had notification of a 'new review' - last time that happened it was spam.

They picked on me, too. I did report it, as I've reported others, but...!! I was able to delete one, as the delete key was still there, but mostly that seems to disappear from spam comments.

Yeah, you can only delete comments on your drabbles if they are from a non-member (or you made said comments in the first place!); our spammer friend is a member by the name wq123. It seems with all these spammers that they go for the first [x] drabbles in the 'Titles' section of SDL and so they attack mostly drabbles beginning with quote marks, numbers, and the letter A.

Anyone else suddenly had a rash of spam reviews, or do I just attract them  ?

I don't know about that, but is the latest posting to St Agnes's House a piece of spam? I thought a new drabble had been posted until I read the synopsis, and realised that, goddess of the kitchen though Karen may be, I don't think she's ever run a catering company in Edinburgh. . .!

Yes, just seen this. Think it's first time anyone has posted an actual "story", usually it's just reviews. Maybe Karen got fed up with the school and started a new venture!

I'v had spam comments recently on my drabbles as well.

Agh! There have been over 30 spam messages left overnight on different volumes of New Dreams, long, long ones, to add to the ones already there. Most of them by someone calling him/herself sumingham75. I have reported it, as they really are far too many to put up with. They're just blocking bone fide reviewers. I

Could something not ber added so we can delete our own spam, or have a delegated person to do it for us? It really is overpowering today. Who on earth wants to waste their time posting all that? It's barmy! And very, very frustrating!

I've had about half a dozen today, as well. Over a period of at least half an hour: how long do the spammers spend on there?! I assume it's some sort of robot, but you'd think even robots had better things to do!

It's very hard to stop that sort of thing. If it's not spammers on internet fora, it's spam e-mails, or nuisance phone calls, or junk mail  .

I don't think robots mind at all about wasting their time - it is after all a man-made concept  (Or is it?)

I shall be interested to see if I get any spam on the comments on my blog since I removed the restriction on anyone at all posting earlier today, just as an experiment....

(You could have a go Mary since I know you have struggled to leave comments in the past)

Okay, I'll try, cestina! Thanks for letting me know. Hope you don't get any spam though, as over 30 alerts in my inbox today was not an amusing sight. And it just puits others off posting. I'd never thought of robots doing it all!! Too simple-minded for the technology age, I fear!

Post subject:  Re: SDL spam?

As far as I can tell, Liss is the only admin/mod on the SDL. With more mods and better spambot detection (particularly in regards to anonymous reviews!) this would not be such a large issue.

Robots are for Robot Wars.

Post subject:  Re: SDL spam?

Have just found another 15 spam messages posted on one part of ND today - all at once! In the middle of all the lovely reviews! That's about 50+ this weeks alone! It is becoming dispiriting and annoying and really spoiling the whole experience of SDL.
