I'm being plagued with spam reviews by "suminghan75", but I'm just trying to ignore them. I really don't get what the point of them is - they're just lists of brand names, and I can't imagine that they're going to prompt anyone to rush off and buy any of the stuff!

And yet there are companies who actually pay just to stick their names up in places. I think advertising has a bigger affect on us than we realise...

I've just had yet another 27 blinking messages from this Sumingham in Vol 7 or ND - that brings the number up to nearly 50 in a week!!!!!!!!!!!!

I take your point, Minim, but how does posting so many messages all in exactly the same spot enhance their visibility for the purposes of advertising? The sheer number of this rubbish is off-putting - and is certainly spoiling SDL as a place to visit and post a drabble or read one.

You only see the spam if you go into reviews, though, Mary. I tend not to do that as my preferred interaction on SDL is purely with the text, rather than other people's remarks on it.

Spambots aren't logical in the human sense - they spew out all these links etc all over the web, because if only one person is stupid enough to click on one, it can let the hackers in ... so try not to let it upset you - it really isn't personal - they, or rather the programs set up on certain computers, are doing it indiscriminately all over the internet.

Oh, I appreciate it's not personal, abbey, but it is just so annoying. But what did you mean that, if one person clicks on one, it can let the hacker in? Surely it's very easy for this person just to throw messages everywhere if they're a member, as this 'person' is.

The spam we get appears not to have any links in, though. Possibly links are disabled on SDL. (I wouldn't necessarily think a hacker was on the other end either - more likely drive-by downloads containing viruses, malware, etc. or even just a spooky BSOD-like shell on your browser telling you to ring this number which is for one of those cold-calling "Windows" companies...)

Edit: With a little Googling I have found our latest spambot on various fanfiction platforms (many of which are similar to SDL) and on at least one other site, summy *has* posted a bunch of links one after the other. (I hovered over one to see where it linked to and then googled to see what the official link was and surprise surprise they were different addresses)

Thanks Minim, you know more than I do, evidently, I'm just naturally suspicious and haven't even seen the SDL spam to know what it actually looks like for the reasons mentioned above.

New spammer today. This one is called Nicole. They're very hard to spot when they use nice, normal names, rather than weird jumbles of letters!

Please can anyone help? Have been trying to add a new chapter to ND on SDL -and just keep being told Access Denied when I click Account Info to add the new chapter. What am I doing wrong? I've emailed Liss, but not sure about getting an answer.

I'm gretting "access denied" too, it's proably down because she's doing something with it, think we just have to wait till it comes back.

It also says Access Denied for me if I just want to log in Mary, maybe Liss is doing something to it.

I can't get in either. Maybe Liss is trying to sort out the spammer problem?

I'm logged in but get Access Denied for account info. If you need to add a chapter then you can if you're logged in, if you find your drabble (using the 'Search' function or any other method), click on 'Edit' (just under the completion status and the word and read counts) and scroll down to the bottom and click on 'Add New Chapter'. It won't work if you're not already logged in though.

Just wondered if anyone is in contact with Liss and could ask her how long it's likely to be before whatever the priobem is will be fixed?

I believe at least one person has contacted her on the email we were requested to use, but no response yet...

It's possible she was working on it over the weekend but it took longer than expected, and she's tied up at work now.

Yes, I wondered if that were the case, too.

I've also mentioned it to Liss, but it's working for me no problem. I just updated five minutes ago.
