She doesn't always post news there and as far as I can tell she doesn't even know there's a problem yet. :dontknow:

Mia has said further up the thread that she's made Liss aware in person that there's a problem.

I personally would find it incredibly stressful if a lot of people e-mailed me about the same thing  - although admittedly I find a lot of things stressful! - so I think it's just a case of sitting tight and awaiting further developments.

I agree, Alison. Mia has said that Liss knows about the situation and I'm sure she'll update everyone as soon as she can.

I don't think everyone emailing her would help.

Agree would be stressful and unkind for us all to send her emails, but it would be nice to know what the situation is.

When I try to log in the screen says 'access denied' before it takes me to the log in screen but I think I just left you an anonymous review on your most recent chapter.

I can post stories but not review even anonymously and I can't log out. It's very strange.

I know Liss is out tonight but I will try to gently nag her tomorrow.

I can't log in but I can review anonymously - have done on your story, Mia!
(JB, your anon review is there too)

Would be great if you could ask Liss to tell us the situation - even if it's that it's something she hasn't time to do at the moment, or if she's waiting for someone else to fix something. It's worrying that she doesn't seem to responded at all.

I can't log in at all, but can read, search etc as normal.

Just a query re all the spam, I've had a look at the members list (as an experiement to see what I could / couldn't see on the SDL), and there are an awful lot of members with 'spammy' usernames (combinations of letters / numbers, or a name with numbers at the end e.g Babbeles7g, Babbeles8y, Babbeles9i and so on), and if you click on their username, there's a lot of nonsense in a foreign language.
Many, many of them have made no posts, and look as if they've signed up to the board for the purpose of spamming it at some point.

I"m a moderator on a large forum (completely unrelated to anything CS) and we've been hit with spam a lot in the past, and this is how people do it; they sign up with odd looking usernames and then flood the site with spam from time to time. It's often BOTs doing it, or people abroad paid a pittance to 'advertise' shoes / make up / fake passports etc.

We have a lot more traffic on the forum, so are often on top of the spammers and can ban their IPs straight away (or as soon as we spot it). Don't know if something like that would be possible here as a means of stopping the spam?
I don't know what platform SDL is on, so it might not be something that is feasible (in terms of technical stuff or time).

This. (And that's what's making me feel like she doesn't know anything yet - because it doesn't seem on this end that she's responded to any kind of communication from anyone here at all. I mean my rational brain says otherwise. It's just my irrational brain is irrationally refusing to listen to my rational brain. My rational brain is telling me to stop worrying because none of this is in my hands anyway and it's not like I was using the site much and extra added pressure isn't going to help anyone. The irrational part of my brain is mostly outputting 'aaaaaaa')

I can assure you I told her via whatsapp and I've just sent her another message. She does have an actual life beyond the CBB though.

Yeah - like I say it's an irrational brain thing and I'm trying to be rational about it. And of course Liss has a life outside this website, but this has been going on for at least two and a half weeks with little-to-no communication as to what's going on, despite the fact that people have emailed to say there's a problem, we've been discussing it, etc. It's a serious problem and will take time to resolve that may not be available right now, but a simple "I will look into this when I have time" would be nice. (In fact, that's literally all I want right now. An acknowledgement there's a problem and a promise it will be looked into at some point. Simples.)

I think I've fixed it. There was an issue with spam being sent via the email function, so the hosting company changed some file permissions.

Mia had indeed notified me, but I'm afraid I've been very busy.

Thanks Liss. It was the lack of response which was concerning me rather then the board having problems.

I am pleased that you have been able to fix the problem and hope real life and the boards let you have some free time to do what you want to do. Enjoy life.

Thanks Liss - what a relief it was so relatively easily done.

Well, spam from suningham is still piling into Vol 7 of ND - well over 20 of them, just in that one vol, including 2 posted today! There are several others keep posting there, too, but at least I can delete those! Why that particular volume and why is it still happening? It's so frustrating. Anyone else still being bombarded?
