I've just managed to get a copy of this - I've never read any of the LR series before but I really warmed to Gerry as a character in the book. I thought she was portrayed well and I wanted to be her friend in the book too! I know she sort of pops up in the CS as a friend of Grizel but do we hear much else about Gerry at all?

Sadly, I don't recall any more about her - I really liked her too.

I think EMBD, like many another author, ended up feeling she'd come quite a long way away from this first character of hers. Time for a re-read, perhaps!

We really only see Gerry in Rivals and then when she sends money for the Sale several books later. She does get a couple of mentions in the other La Rochelle books though.

I'd love to have heard more about her as Grizel's friend. I think Grizel really needed a non-CS friend. She seems to vanish, though :( .

Well, I started my re-read, and have so far come across Splasheries and a fully-fitted up geography room! :D

I've read this today - it was good! Though every so often I got a bit confused about all the 10 children and how old they were and so how involved in everything they were supposed to be! Gerry was a nice and likeable character. And I liked reading about the similar names to the Chalet books - first names I mean - it seems like EBD did have her favourite names :)
